Disgusting

Were we talking about masks in this thread recently? I cant keep track. So i will post it here.
Is there an agenda? Public shaming to push masks?
Lots have moved past being scared so is the mask the new symbol of fear?

I'm adamant about this one. Due to being in health care for the vast majority of my life and having to deal with AIDS (that really sucked), Hep C, SARS , H1N1 and now COVID, I feel I can speak my mind and relay some interesting stuff.
All of my friends are either Professional Martial Artists, Healthcare Workers or Military and all have been hit with this pandemic drastically, but in different ways. I learned this morning that Emil Farkas is closing his Hollywood Dojo after fifty years in the same spot because his landlord is going broke. Emil is 75. Wears a mask and is tough as nails. Always was even when he traipsed back to TO his second country. I learned from Pat McCarthy that Emil was closing his Dojo. Pat wears a mask. Lives in LA now and is also tough as nails. He is just a kid at 67. They wear masks to protect others and are far from being fearful of anything.
My ex-wife (no longer wifey-ex wifey) is pissed at people for not wearing masks. She is a Community Care Nurse and works in one of the LTC's that was hit with many deaths. She went in after staff walked out. She didn't have to. Believe me when I say she is not afraid of much. Let alone a virus. She is afraid of people not taking this seriously. She watches people die.
I recently found out some Medics I know from the military are now in LTC's. They spent time in Afghanistan. Being soldiers, they admit fearing. Heck they are all getting sick.
If you don't want to wear a mask-don't, but don't call the people who wear one afraid, because they are not. They are battling this thing daily and deserve respect. not derision.
I wear a mask. I would hate to infect someone if I am asymptomatic and a carrier. I have to get a test this week.
Public shaming?

What would you do if the "mouthy cunt" weighed 265 lbs and was a scrapper? Or for that matter 120 lbs of a pissed off nurse? Don't overestimate your abilities.

Ahhh well just fyi I didnt even read your post before I made mine so I wasnt attacking you. Id rather get my face smashed in then have someone disrespect me to be honest, my bones will heal faster than my fragile little ego. & if someone wants to scrap because they gave me shit for not wearing a mask and I spoke up to defend myself then maybe they need to be put in the mental ward for a bit. just saying.

and you say "If you don't want to wear a mask-don't, but don't call the people who wear one afraid, because they are not" well its a two way street my friend, I dont call people afraid/whatever for wearing one and they shouldnt call me whatever/shame me for not wearing one.

A mental ward? No kidding? What would you say to the nurse? The Nurse who holds the hands of someone who died because of your selfishness? The last person who the patient saw or felt? Sometimes it is better to be disrespected (whatever that immature, cocksure statement means these days) than pummeled and pissed on.

look lets not start another piss war because I only said what I said in response to the vid superbeast posted. I meant no disrespect to you or wife obviously since I didnt even see your post. But let me get this straight cause Im confused, you think those people who are not wearing a mask is a direct contribution to someone who died of covid and they are selfish? Nobody is forcing anyone to go outside, if they are fearful of their lives they can continue to quarantine like princess trudeau has been doing. If they want to go outside and wear a mask, more power to them, I dont judge. But when someone gives me lip for not following their routine Im gonna chirp back you better believe it. & I wont ever be the first one to throw the punch, its not my style. Most things can be settled without violence.

Wide-open anything goes!
Perhaps you should read posts.
I most definitely think if you are not willing to wear protection for other people it is selfish. We don't know when COVID is most contagious, but we are starting to think it may only be in the first 5-8 days of infection. The asymptomatic time period.
You don't judge, yet you called us cunts? LMAO!
Most things can be settled without violence? Really? No shit?

Whoa!! Bagua has come to life!

Here is my view on masks. If you want to wear one wear one. If you don’t don’t. If some fuck says something to me about it they can fuck off and I’ll be happy to inform them of that. I don’t say anything to them for doing something I think is over the top.

I did some reading on how masks work recently. I’ve also had to work under supplied air many times in my life. Also had to use respirators while working with Cancer causing powdered chemicals. We were taught about micron sizing and why certain Things are ineffective as ppe.
So I am no medical expert but do have some experience with these types of things.

Let’s start with a respirator, a cartridge style one. These things work fairly well. But I noticed as I’d sweat that some of the powders that hit my face would actually make there way into my mask. They were in a goo form by then but 10-12 hrs of wearing this thing and these things failed me to a small degree. Oh and yes I was fit tested to these masks. But if you are paranoid about covid and wanted to protect yourself and others this would probably be your best option. Just remember something that doesn’t have positive pressure can never protect you 100%

Obviously walking around on supplied air isn’t feasible.

So now we have masks. These vary from N95 to surgical to the stupid knitted mask I saw a guy wearing at the registry’s a col days ago when I was getting my bike registered.

If someone feels better about wearing an engineered mask, well I guess this would be your next best option. But not long ago we were told they don’t help, that we should save masks for frontline workers ( I hate that term by the way).
Then we got these stupid homemade masks.
I wanted to understand the usefulness of these things I knew was inherently stupid so I did some research on the subject. To my surprise You can actually make a fairly effective mask yourself! Problem is it needs so many layers it’s almost impossible to breathe out of. No science behind this but from what I read and what I have seen on the street I would guesstimate you’re dishrag on your face is somewhere between 5-25% efficient. So you are theoretically protecting yourself AND others an additional 5-25% more. I personally do not think this is worth it. To top it off most people aren’t hygienic and may not clean these things properly, touch them way to often etc. To me it’s not worth the effort. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe the people wearing masks are wrong or the correct answer is somewhere in the middle. My personal view home made mask are a stupid false sense of security. I will not wear one.

There is absolutely a time and place to wear a mask. The mask culture in Taiwan and Japan has greatly reduced the severity of the covid outbreak in those countries.

That said, I don't think you need to wear one on the beach or driving alone in your car.

There are some rechargeable air purifiers currently unavailable on Amazon but they are not hooked up to a positive pressure enclosure of any kind, such as the type some paint shops use.

Missing the point.
The media is clearly pushing masks to instil fear into the public. It couldnt be much more obvious. Just overnight after months of claiming they dont work, everyone wears them. And yes, there are many videos of people trying to Publicly shame others for not wearing a mask.

Funny how a month ago the public wearing masks was just an idiotic idea cause the WHO said they dont work. Now a cut up t shirt on your face is considered a medical device. Possibly saving lives?
Hard to keep up.
gotta go with what trending these days i guess

Thank you! fuck man, I feel the same.. so refreshing someone in this forum actually shares an opinion with me. lol. . why "not wearing a mask" went political is insane to me. Why a leader like Trump refuses to do it is mind-boggling. If there is one thing most people on this forum have agreed on is that we as a society don't really know for sure what the fuck is going on. Currently, there is no 100% right answer on how to handle this or how to fix this. The possible truest and easiest 100% is that wearing a mask reduces water droplets emitted in the air by people who wear it, which is how this virus spreads.

I fucking hate wearing a mask, it sucks. Do I wear one every day? no. But I don't try and create youtube content if Costco or Apple store asks me to wear one. It's not an infringement on your rights, it's not permanent, and you're not less of a man for wearing one.

Cloth masks have been proven to be effective, not sure guesstimates should really be part of a sound argument. Remember, the science is for this to pick up or deflect water droplets exiting your mouth, not to filter the air coming in. By wearing one it allows people to be a bit closer with lower risk of spread. In part, its a numbers / % game.

People should be considering this as an act of kindness like holding open a door for someone or saying thank you to someone bagging your groceries. Not as an act of oppression.

@3ml Here are some scientific findings on the effectiveness of dish rags for ya.

"For tea towel fabric, studied with aerosol-sized particles, filtration efficiency in experiments using a bacterial marker was 83% with 1 layer and 97% with 2 layers, compared with 96% for a medical mask (4)"

source.

agree with ya, its confusing but you still can't dispute the science now. We are where we're at. Also, since you like conspiracies, did you ever consider the WHO may have advised against the public wearing a mask so world shortages wouldn't be as bad as toilet paper. In the beginning, it was the Chinese public that cleared out most of the mask supplies before front lines could get them.
