Morning
@BanditNOLIMIT - I can't get the podcasts to play or I would listen to them (will try later), but I too take high doses of dual action melatonin for multiple reasons. Some contain products that are not allowed to be used in other countries so read the extra ingredients please. I take 20 mg a night and have for years - have taken more but 10 mg is usually enough to help aid falling asleep. I stopped a few times, cold turkey and was still able to sleep so I don't stress too much about needing more or stopping.
As per my comment above, keep an eye out for
titanium dioxide in your products as it is a known carcinogen and banned in many countries but Canada still uses it in a lot of products.
Melatonin is one of the more potent antioxidants available, and beat NAC and very high hose vitamin E in studies on animals who were given liver toxins (they used mega doses of acetaminophen if I recall correct - enough to cause acute failure. It was by far the best for protection, 'they' suspect it is due to it's antioxidant / free radical scavenging/anti-inflammatory properties/ability to reactivate antioxidants that would normally be rendered inert and as such run out such as glutathione which protects the liver and is the mother of all antioxidants. Makes me wonder why the hospitals don't use it vs. IV NAC (or at least with) for all the acetaminophen overdoses accidental or not.
It works as well as most topical eye steroids and a few gents here stated it didn't help with their sleep but they noticed they could see better at night if I recall correct, which I may not but it was
@The Old Guy who said that.
One of my Bouviers has a serious eye disease and requires endless eye drops, in order to keep the pressures down and avoid glaucoma, he gets melatonin everyday with his meal. The vet knows and encourages it as the veterinarian I work with is a traditional and naturopathic vet.
Please share how high you end up going, one gent here used 50 mg a night and never complained about hang overs, etc. but he had terrible insomnia. It is a versatile supplement and one I will continue with - thanks for sharing your info.
