sleep apnea

I have to put ice in mine. If it's not cool air, I feel like I'm suffocating.

If that feeling is really bad, I use some nose spray to really open up my sinuses. You just have to be careful with the otc sprays....they can be addictive. Using a corticosteroid one rather than the others is allegedly less habit forming.

Ice is a good idea.... I prefer everything cold when I sleep.. Do you freeze distilled water for the ice cubes?

Yes sir.

The humidifier hose features makes me feel like I'm drowning! I'd love if a cooling feature was available. I suppose most hate the dryness and like the humidity....but feeling like you're sleeping 20 000 leagues under the sea is awful!

What mask you got?

It takes a bit to play around with...

I'll be honest, to get started I used a bit of mary J before bed.. I'm talking 1 puff lol.. 1 puff makes me pretty sleepy.. It just helped me not get irratated with the mask and fall asleep.

I had to start with low pressure, like 4, and slowly build up. That helped me a lot.

My machine is programmed at 5-15

Yeah I thought about doing something to make me sleep at least I’m off tren which helps lol

I went on youtube and found a video how to unlock my machine to give me "clinical settings".. This allowed me to actually adjust the machine fully.. I'm not sure why they keep it a secret and not let you adjust out of the box, but they did.. Look up your machine and see if you can adjust it more.

You just have to keep using it no matter what. It took me one full week of shit sleeps to get used to it, then I loved it and can't sleep without it now.

If you don't sleep on your back try to train yourself to do so, then you'll sleep much better with a cpap.

I have the nasal mask too and I have it as loose as the straps will allow and stretched out a bit more. The pillows just lightly sit on my face. Humidity set to 1 in winter, no water in tank most of the summer. Hose temp at 20 during the winter, 16 in summer. Auto ramp up with preasure set from 7 to 14.

The real game changer for me was back sleeping and getting a good U shape neck pillow, like the ones people fly with, as it keeps my head locked in line so I don't move as I'm sleeping and accidently pull the mask off or cause a leak. Then I pull enough hose onto my chest to keep it loose on my face and fold the corner of my blanket over the hose so it does not slide off the bed as that will pull the mask and it'll leak.

My CPAP is on the floor under the bed so it can not fall off a side table if the hose is pulled, it is quieter down there, and it pulls in clean fresh air (it won't pump in your farts, no joke!)

These U pillows from The Dollar Store are the best as they have the thickest foam from all the ones I've tried to support my neck and big head

I have so many damn issues because of the position I sleep in.. On my side with my arm tucked under my head.. That sleeping position is one of the biggest causes of my constant shoulder pain..

I've tried everything to sleep on my back and I can't.. The only time I was able to sleep on my back was post hernia surgery while taking opiods.. The pain of rolling on my side also just kept my body on my back. But aside from that, I can not sleep on my back.

My humidity is set at 5 and my start pressure is 4 and ramps up to 9.4ish.. I sleep on my side with the nasal mask. Machine is on the night stand.. I must have a long hose, it never comes close to pulling the machine off.

I swear we should get a cpap distributer on here as a sponsor and for tech help lol

I got used to sleeping on my back. I used to love sleeping on my side and got shoulder pain from it as well.
Normally I sleep on my back until my wife gets up and then I take off the mask, roll on to my side and fall back asleep.

Its tough to wear a mask and side sleep.

You will just have to get used to back sleeping. I used to put 2 pillows under my head at first to get more comfortable.

Pump in your farts, lol.
I have woken myself mainlining my stinky farts thru the mask.

At first I just took the mask off after I couldn't handle it. Better to get 3 hours than nothing.

Maybe a different mask is needed.

Try the resmed 30p or the straight nasal one. Both are much better than the ones that cover your mouth. Those always leaked on me.

I had to work on back sleeping, it didn't come easy. What eventually got me there is that I would start on my side and when I felt relaxed and drowsy like I could fall asleep soon I'd slowly roll myself onto my back and stay relaxed, and thinking that i can just roll back onto my side again anytime if i wanted. If I got antsy I'd go back on my side, then repeat, until I'd fall asleep on my back. Just stay relaxed in your mind and it'll work eventually, and your body will slowly get used to it as new routine

On a side note, the U shape neck pillow is really good for side sleeping with a cpap mask if the pillow is on the bed sideways like a C and you put your head down on it so that your face and the hose is at the opening. I do this sometimes if my back is sore and I want to stretch it on either side and Ive fallen asleep like this a few times, but now that I'm used to back sleeping I get neck, shoulder, and back issues if I side sleep

anyone have any experience with the portable machines? we all like to catch naps on shifts at my work, and my snoring is unbearable for the coworkers hahaha.

I have the Resmed Airmini that I got for travel, as well as the bigger Airsense 11 that I use daily. It works very well and the size makes it great for travel, but it is considerably louder than the 11

Louder to the point that when I travel with my family I'll pack the 11 so that it's quieter in the room so it does not bother them at night.

The mini also pumps air a lot harder at the same pressure settings as the 11, in my opinion. I have had to adjust the mini to lower pressure settings to get it to flow how I like, and I still have some more tweaking to go as its still not perfect.

The mini uses a proprietory mask with a humidity module a few inches down the hose from your face which can be annoying at night if it touches your face. You can get an aftermarket adapter on AliExpress or Amazon that allows the mini to use a standard hose and any other mask, and I tried to use my 11 mask on the mini with the adapter and other hose but the Darth Vader breathing sound got even louder so I just use the mini's original mask.
