sleep apnea

Oh I get it lol.... I have been wearing it every night since I got the machine, but I have only made it a full night once.

I was able to fall asleep with it on last night, but I woke up with the machine off and the headpeice resting on my night stand.. I do not recall taking it off. I am never like that, so now its becoming second nature to take it off while I sleep I think,

The fit matters for sure, but I also find the pressure does too. Too much pressure and I can't fall to sleep.. to little and its like i cant breathe.

I swear we should get the guy who runs that cpap store on line to become a member here to answer questions and be a sponsor.. He'd get lots of busienss

Set your machine to run a steady pressure instead of the variable one, (if you have it set for that) then experiment with different pressures till you get the one you like.

If you are having a stuffy nose day, use Flonase, 2 squats a nostril about 30 min before bed. You’ll breathe just fine.

It's at steady pressure.. I tried Variable and it didn;t work for me.

i had to put pillows in my armpits and my hands in the pillow cases to almost restrain myself at first because i also took it off in my sleep and set it on the night stand lol

well, I slept all night with the nasal mask last night.. I was shocked when I woke up at 6am without an alarm clock and it was still on my head and machine still running. This is the 2nd time since I got the machien in January I made it all night.

I might have found what my issue is.. I cleaned it for the first time yesterday and noticed the hose had water in it. I have the moisture set to 4. I set it to 3 before bed.. I woke up with a horrible dry mouth, but I made it through the night without taking it off.. I prefer the moisture to be at 5 or even 6, but the hose gets water build up inside it. I thought it was ok at 4, but when I cleaned it, it was deffinitely not.

Oddly enough, I feel really tired and foggy today.. but I did heavy legs yesterday. That can sometimes make me feel almost hung over the next day.

I found if I don’t fill the water too high in the humidifier I don’t get water in the hose, don’t ask me why that works, but it does, maybe try just 2/3rd filling it.

I used to get that groggy feeling as well, that because your body isn’t used to getting that much quality sleep. That will change as well.

I thought I was the only one that felt really bagged the next day after legs.

weird... I fill it to the top every night.. I'll stop doing that.. I hope I can increase the moisture to 4 or 5.. my mouth was dry as hell this monring.

Man, if I have a great leg dead or a back day with heavy deadlifts, I have to be careful the next day.. I'm short tempered, groggy, tired etc..

I only fill mine eod. I can tell when it empties though, I will wake with the burn thru my nose.

Yeah I fill it a bit below the full line and had no more water in the line. I think the pressure might push the water out into the hose just by its design. It was an easy fix.

You will get used to the mask eventually, took me a few months.

Even now sometimes I just cannot sleep with it on. On those nights so I don’t torture my wife with my snoring I will wear a breathe right strip and use Flonase before bed to reduce the snoring as long as my nose is clear, on nights my nose is a bit plugged I go down to the basement and sleep on my hide a bed couch. That way is I am snoring my ass off at least I’m not keeping her up.

I do not stop breathing or anything though, my issue is heavy snoring, which I bet isn’t likely the best for a good sleep either. I asked my wife if I gasped or choke or anything and she said I don’t, just snore so loud she cannot sleep.

But yeah, I figure if I am at least using the mask 80% of the time, its still better for my sleep than before, so I don’t sweat it if I’m having a day and just don’t feel like wearing it.

Also something I have noticed, and maybe I am just dreaming this one up, but I beleive after numerous nights of wearing the mask, my body gets used to the deep breathing and even if I don’t wear the mask one night, I just seem to breathe heavier like I have the mask on, almost like I get trained, but after 1 or two nights, its back to snoring extremely loud again.

I've never had water in the tube and I keep it just high enough that I don't get that dry feeling in the morning. If your CPAP had a ramp setting you could try setting it lower and increasing pressure after the ramp time.

I notice this too, I think it's inflammation when I snore I think it inflames that area but after a few nights of CPAP I'll sleep better than baseline without it. I think this is why I was instructed to not use the CPAP for 3 nights before my study.

What you say makes complete sense. I never thought of the inflammation.

Even though it can feel like a hassle, getting tested is
Just got paid to get the test from a private clinic 500$

I have all the symptoms but was lazy to follow up even after my appendicitis surgery my dr told me during recovery I stopped breathing multiple times

Anyone with any symptoms should take the time to test

Even though it can feel like a hassle, getting tested is important if you’re experiencing those symptoms. Sleep apnea can seriously affect your health in ways you might not even realize, so better to get it checked out now than let it slide. Hope your recovery’s going smoothly too!

Well I have come to the conclusion I cant fall asleep using the machine without some sort of nasal spray.. I just can't do it. I've tried many times and ended up with awful ruined sleep..

Is there any Nasal sprays better/safer than others?

Otrivin, flonase, dristan etc.?

I've tried the herbal type ones where you inhale bascially vicks vapour rub and they don't open up my nose.

An anti inflammatory type is less habit forming that the decongestant type.

Ie flonase vs otrivin.

Flonase better?
Yes.

The corticosteroid based ones are supposed to be less habit forming than the others.

If you can, try the ice. It really helps for me. But if you wake up during the night it may be back to square one

I used to wake up at least 10 times a night before I got the snore machine ( what its affectionately called in our house) once climatized to it though....I sleep through the night.

What do you mean try the "ice"

Interesting. The clinic set mine up with the ramp up feature but I absolutely hated it. Disabled it immediately. With the auto pressure, do you find it just drops too low at times? Or is it simply the inconsistency?
I hate the auto feature. It goes too high than too low. I don’t think it matches what you really need. I have mine set to 11. It’s where I get the least amount of leaks and the lowest apnea events so I just leave it there.
