So new gym opening in my area, coming in at about 2 x what I currently pay, independent name, yet boasting 300 max limit membership, pics looks nice but nothing to make your draw drop. 24/ 7 access

Does a limited gym membership mean extra dollars for you ?

What your considered max $ for a membership ?

Depends on the gym. When I was in Toronto I wanted to check out pure. Finding out the price definitely made me not want to go there. My buddy knew someone so got me a free drop in (or it would’ve been like 45 I think). After training there once i would happily pay the membership if i lived there.
Recently also joined a more expensive gym. Was always against it cause I’m cheap but wanted to try it out cause it had superior equipment. Since joining i haven’t looked back. Another gym in Surrey also charges ridiculous price. But after I visited it during a trip, would happily pay the membership. I really value good equipment.

If you think about it even 100-200 bucks for a month. If you break it down it’s 3.3-6.6 a day. There are way more expensive hobbies out there. I love the gym and it’s the place I spend the most time besides my place. If gym is a priority and the equipment or atmosphere/location makes it worth your while. I say go for it.

Usually the limited membership means it won’t be as busy. But I kinda think it’s just a marketing ploy. They gotta pay the upkeep so it may be 300 now but 6-12 months in who knows.

I find with gyms in bigger cities you get what you pay for in many aspects..

Sometimes you pay for shit you don't use like a Sauna or a walking track though.

Agreed. Without knowing what kind of gym-goer he is or what he values or finds “worth it” it’s hard to say. I think you just gotta weigh out what you’re willing to pay and compare it to what the gym has to offer and whether or not you find value it in.

Sauna/showers/tanning and all that might be more worth it to someone who might save elsewhere. Whereas someone else might value it being 24 hours or location due to convenience of being able to train. To each their own.

Yup.. need to list out the priorities you are willing to pay for.. Whatever you must have, you pay for the membership that fits.

Its funny though, osmetimes you think "I'll never use that".. and then you try a new gym with it and then that thing you sid you'd never use becomes a staple lol...

My gym has a sauna... I haven't stepped foot in a sauna since grade 4 I think... but I'm sure if I sat in the sauna at the gym I would love it.

I'm a total cheapskate, but I value good machines. I also look for the opening hours. If the gym isn't 24/7, it better be close to it. One thing I don't really care about is the gym's vibe. I don't buy into the hype of some gyms just to be part of a ''gang''. I literally train everyday in a gym that mostly has elders and I love it. I put on good music and all the good machines are usually available cause they don't know how to train hehe. I don't mind paying extra money to try out a nice gym when I'm traveling though. My current everyday membership is 40$ a month and has all Atlantis machines.

I actully prefer gyms that are not hardcore.. I prefer gyms that attract the normals..

To be honest, in the last 10 years or so, all the guys who are hardcore lifters seem to usually be douche bags these days.. Back 20 years +, the harcore guys were almost always the opposite of douche's

idk the more prissy the gym the bigger the crowd you get watching you deadlift anything over 405 lol
it’s like watching jesus turn water into wine for those individuals

Yup, but once they see you a few times and realize your just a decent person who lifts heavy, they stop looking at you like your a wanted felon. And then life goes on... And this type of crowd generally doesn't contain any of the douche bags.

Hey, if someone wants too stare at me because I lift big weights it's sincerily an amazing compliment to me.

I have 2 gym memberships both costing about 60 a month each and a full home gym with pendulum, smith, hack, cables, leg press etc…. I don’t look at gym prices. If it keeps me motivated I’m all for it
This. Whatever keeps you motivated. Il second having 2 gym memberships plus a leisure swim pass. One old school bodybuilding gym, one new commerical gym with amenities, and an aquatic center swim pass totals me around $200 a month which I can justify.

Changing things up on a daily or weekly basis depending what I feel like training, and with whom & where is what keeps me going, otherwise I get bored.

Now you guys are making me want to try all the gyms in my city and get another membership.
Kind of a waste for me as i train at home during the week as my workdays can last anywhere between 10 and 14 hours

Thats what's nice about a home gym, no extra time wasted driving there, especially when you work long days.

My main butcher is off on holidays this week and I've had to work 10+ hour days again, sucks ass.

I used to own a home gym. Had some unique bars. Made a deal with a local gym owner to leave the equipment there for a free membership.

Thanks for the replies guys , lots to pounder gonna take a look at the place this weekend and see if it’s worth the 1200 per yer price tag

100$ a month?? There had better be a lot of included stuff in that membership.. That's the highest membership I have heard of in Canada.
