I can't speak to the anxiety or some of the other ideas here, but I can present one anomaly which appears to be backed up by the clinical trials. My eGFR was significantly better the one time I tested it while on Reta. March 27 of this year, I had been on it for 6 weeks at this point. Looking at my logs, the gear use varies but there's not much else different. As well, my blood pressure is always good, so my kidneys are not on a roller coaster in that sense. Now, I know this is just an anomaly with a sample size of 1, however the clinical trials did indicate improved kidney function in at least one group: the obese group, but not the diabetic group.
So, people losing weight can probably affect kidney function, so that may well play into it, but the gist seems to be that reta itself has an effect...so make of this what you may, it was a pleasant surprise.
The test on March 27 is the highest ever at 88, after 6 weeks of reta, the test from July 29 is the latest with my second-best eGFR reading at 79, and that's with Anavar here and there for a couple of months. A 17 point improvement from December to March.
I had come off reta in early May. These markers are the result of Cystatin-C testing for more accurate eGFR results.
