Your Training Style

Mentioned this in another post but curious how everyone trains.

How long have you followed this plan ?

What keeps you training this way ? Results ?

Ultimate goals ? Compete ? Increased strength for other sports ? Overall health and longevity ?

What other styles have you tried ? Why did you change ?

I’ll start

Train in a Mentzer style of low sets and rep ranges under 12 with heavy weights and high intensity.

Been training this way one and off for about 15 years.

Found this to have kept me injury free and got good results. Only thing I found better for strength was 5x5 but too many injuries and knee issues.

I train now for longevity but the extra strength is great for kickboxing and limited grappling.

Done just about every different style, CrossFit, 5x5, Push pull, high volume.

First of all this is a great thread I’d love to see how some of the mutants on this forum train lol

I found my best results on push pull legs , then upper body, lower body then 2 rest days repeat

2 sets for everything, 3 movements per muscle group. 6-12 rep range except for lateral raises I will push a little higher .

Switched over from push pull legs push pull legs too this around February and have found I recover a lot better although being out of the gym for 2 days sucks.

Not sure if I’ll ever compete but I’ve made my best progress yet in this split and currently aiming for 200lbs at 5’9 on my growth phase

i do a bro split. 5-6 movements, 1 feeler 2 working sets, definitely a higher volume guy, feel i recover the best from it while staying injury free. 10-12 reps for isolation movements, 6-12 for compounds (12 for feeler sets, 6-8 for heavy working sets.) recently lowered all my weights and focusing hard on strict form with slow concentric/eccentric phases. also added a second shoulder day/week since they are lagging for me.

won’t compete probably. i’m 6’3 and not willing to do the drugs required to pack on enough muscle to compete with the shorter mutants. don’t think i have the genetics for it either to be any good (average clavicle width, not small waist, mediocre muscle insertions.) mostly train for the female gaze, working down to 8-10% bf currently while trying to keep strength up.

2 days on 1 day off medium volume. Push/Pull/Legs. About 14-16 total sets per body part. About a year now. I was training 5 days a week in the past, 3 on 1 off, 2 on 1 off. Just felt that my body can't really perform all that well on 3 day 3, after 2 days of hard training so I settled with 2 on 1 off.

I started out doing the arnold workout from his encyclopedia of bodybuilding. Pyramid sets and thing like clesn amd press snd push press stuff. I liked it. Then did 5x5 for a while liked it too and now the last few years I bounce back and forth between strength and functional workouts and bodybuilding with 3 sets of 8 to 12. Im into martial arts as well boxing jujitsue etc so I love tbe idea of just strength power and explosiveness but my pride and ego always makes me want to keep bodybuilding just for the look that you achieve. I do phases like 6 months at a time sometimes 3 to 4 months depends on how much free tine I have, my work schedule etc. Im thinking this time though I may just stick with the functional stuff. For strength snd explosivness I usually lean out and do lots of zone 2 cardio like 20 minute jogs esch day. Right now im only boxing so thats 4 to 6 hours a week. My hiit is only boxing days, zone 2 is only days not boxing and the workouts during boxing is just long muscular endurence stuff like 8 minutes straight of abs with no rest and the same for pushups and a few other bodyweight exercises. My workouts on days off are plyometrics, balistic exercises, rotational etc 4 sets of 4, Followed by strength stuff mostly bigger compound things like bench press, over head press, squat and dead lift for 3 to 5 sets of 3 to 5, and finishing off with hypertrophy stuff 3 sets 8 to 12 of most isolation exercises. When ever I cycle I usualy just do bodybuilding then when im off I switch to strength lol. Gotta have that beach body for the wife. Oh yea also when off cycle my split is usually push pull legs once a week, ive done bro split and push/pull/legs twice a week but that was too much. When on cycle I add extra days depending what im prioritizing so currently im doing legs/push/pull/arms. Sometimes ive done push/pull/legs/fullbody
