Umbilical Hernia Question

Ok fellas question for anyone that’s had one of these.
So have an Umbilical Hernia. Not too bad, no pain really, can’t notice it much but I can. Easily pushed in.
Doctor says if I want surgery say so and I’m in for it.
So how long can I not work out after and what should I do say before the surgery to reduce any loss of muscle after it while not being able to train?
Thanks for any help.

Yes - I have one of those - had it for the last 10 years or so - I'm loosing weight on reta - plan to get it fixed hopefully in the fall when I'm down in weight. I still work out- squats - bench - - no heavy deadlifts - you sort of get used to it - sometimes it sticks out - and only goes back in at night when I lay down to sleep - rarely it gets sore - but it's much better now that I've lost some weight.

I only had it get infected once - and it was not nice - had to get very heavy duty antibiotics from the hospital - they offered me surgery but I wasn't confident in the doctor. I want to go to shouldice and get it fixed right the first time.

My advice to you - I don't know how old you are or how recent this is - if your in good shape get it done asap - but by someone who has done lots of these - sometimes the recovery period can be difficult if your not in good shape going in. If your young & in good shape I don't believe the recovery period is very long.

Best of luck

Good day, not to avoid directly answering but these are very common and it seems a bunch of guys here have had the surgery. I'd try the search function, lots of insightful threads.

Thanks… Good shape so sure recovery won’t be bad but wasn’t sure what to expect. Appreciate the response.
