sleep apnea

I went with the full because I know sometimes I sleep with mouth open.. Usuaully I breeathe through my nose, but not always.. I have a bit of congestion right now, so I woke up breathign out my mouth.

I played around with it a bit again and I can get a good fit (according to the machines test) if I use the mask to push the beard downward instead of rest the mask on the beard.

I rarely use a beard oil/conditioner, but I bet if I used a bit on the beard before bed it would let it lay flat enough for the mask
I hear you man, I really do. I experienced the same as you and argued with the sleep technician that I was a mouth breather....she insisted that I try the nasal pillow mask fiest and she was right.
When I use the nasal mask its like it creates a venturi and suctions my mouth closed.
I put the mask on even when congested and the conjestion goes away miraculously.
I was so sceptical but relented and tried and I would have never thought in a million years that it would work. I was wrong.

hmmmm.... I don't mind grabbing one and giving it a go.. makes sense it suctions the mouth closed. It doesn't hurt to have a couple different masks in the house I think.

You’ll learn to sleep with your mouth closed. A couple of times I woke with the air rushing out of my mouth, lol. Teaches you quick.

Plus the forced air thru your nose I find usually clears it. If you are really plugged I found Flonase to work the best to open everything up. 2 squirts in each nostril before you go to bed, problem solved. It opens your air ways up.

Well, terrible sleep lol..

When I went to bed I knew it was going to be rough.. I was way too awake.. I did heavy legs last night and had a great work out.. and then when got home I didn't have enough time to unwind. And our bedroom was way too hot... and then the fucking cat wouldn't stop trying to lay on me..

Took an hour to fall asleep..

The mask seemed to feel ok while testing it.. but when trying to fall asleep it seemed like when I exhaled I was exhaling in a paper bag.. I could feel resistance and my hot air breathe on my face when I exhaled.. Can I adjust the machine to make it feel more naturla on the exhale?

I also felt like the air going in was too warm and dry (probably because I felt too warm in my room).. I turned up the moisture as high as it would go, but I left the heated air tube thing set at 80 like the manual said it should be.

On the plus side, the apple watch thing said once I fell asleep, I hit deep sleep for the longest I have ever seen myself hit deep sleep..

I woke up 3 times. each time I took the mask off and then a few mins later I put it back on except the last time when I woke up around 5:45 I left it off

It will take time to get used to. Took a couple weeks. But then there will be times you'll wake up in the morning and just lay there and breath in deeply and it will feel great. Just like you can pull the covers over your head and not cook yourself, or worry about farting, lol.

That is what I hated about the mask, felt like you were rebreathing your breath.

Look up your machine and their should be an adjustment that you can control how quickly it responds to you breathing out, or different adjustments based on masks. I played around with those settings and even though I am using a pillow, I use a different setting (I beleive for a pillow mask) because it felt better.. You should also be able to set the machine to go lower for a set time till you fall asleep then it will ramp up.

I use the water out of my fridge when I fill the humidifier, so at first the air coming in is cooler because it hasn't had time to warm up (I don't preheat the water), and I fall asleep within 15 minutes so it warms then. You need the water temp higher if you want more moisture. I cannot adjust the hose temperature on mine, so you will need to play with that.

Plan tonight is to turn off the heated hose and keep humidity as high as possible (I'll try cold water)... I had chapped dry lips when I woke up too.. I'll try chap stick before bed.

I think part of issue is I have a slight cold.. So I can't say I'm trying the machine in the normal ideal nights.

I figued out how to ramp up the pressure, but I honestly prefer it pushing lots of air in.. when I breathe out, it stops pushing, but I just couldn't get used the resistance when I breathed out.

I think I need the nose mask too. I'll get used to it, but it just felt like I had too much on my head.. and I had to have it tight to squeeze on my beard to seal.

I' looking forward to trying it out again tonihgt

I use the resmed 30i but there are other types that don't wrap your head so much.

I tried out like 8 different masks and settled on that one, its be best of the worst, lol. Wearing a CPAP sucks ass, but you get better sleep mostly and recover better.

I got chapped lips from the full face mask as well.
I don't ramp it up either, just one setting. I run mine at 8.6.

You may turn the hose back on once you just use the nasal pillow.

It is night and day difference from the mask and you don't have to crank it down tight because it won't push on your beard or mustache.

I tried to find a mix between not snoring, having the mask as loose as possible and not crank the pressure up high enough for it to leak. Took a couple weeks to get it perfect.

You may be leaking on your beard as well, because maybe you drop your chin down when you sleep and then you get space for the air to leak. That happened to me.

I can send you a right in the nose nasal one if you want to try it and save yourself $100. I'm leaving today for Florida at 2, but I will mail it as soon as I get back on Tuesday. I don't use that type because it hurts my nostrils

Its pretty much this one. You don't have to send it back if it doesn't work out, I don't use it. I used it for about 6 hours one night, lol. I'll sanatize it before sending.

Fuck me I don't know what I am going to do..

Went to bed at 10:30 and couldn't fall asleep for shit and I went to bed very tired..

At 1:00 I finally ripped the mask off for the night..

I swear if there was a hammer beside the bed I would have smashed that machine into pieces...

It kept feeling like I was suffocating.... I tried to tell myslef its in my head, but when I finally took it off it honestly was so much easier to breathe both inhale and exhale.. It was so hard to breathe with it on that I swear there is something wrong with the machine or mask.. there has to be.. With the mask on it was like I was slowly running out of breathe for a full min then I took a huge breathe to compensate for the lack of air the machine gave me.. then the cycle repeated..

@Sorbate I am eating breakfast and heading to work.. If I get a minute today I'm going to contact the place I bought the machine from and see what to do.. I'll likely take you up on your offer.

That is not how it should feel. You should feel the pressure and breathe in easier. I don't find it a bother at all to breathe out. Its like the machine almost knows when I am going to breathe out and stops the pressure.

About 2 weeks ago, in my sleep I guess I pulled the mask up and then blocked the air flow from the nasal pillow with my forehead, lol. Guess I didn't like how I was breathing that night.

Woke in the morning wondering where the mask was, and realized it was stuck to my forehead when I moved it and it started to blow air.

If you don't want to wait till the masks shows up this is the one I use, well not this exact brand, I bought the real resmed N30i. I think they are $180 now though.

I use a medium nasal pad.

i think mine runs at 15 on the full face. just takes time to get used to brother. super frustrating i know. i woke up with the mask across the room for the first month, never keeping it on for more than 20 mins once asleep according to the machine.

I got a hold of the place I bought from cpapsupply..

He helped me get into the clinical settings..

Machine was set at 10...

I turned it down to 8 and laid in bed for a bit. MUCH better..... I could breathe lol..

cpap supply seems to be cheapest place.. The resmedN30i is 126$. there

if cpap doesn't work, oral appliance is a good second option. MAD advances your bottom jaw forward so that the airways don't collapse when you sleep.

TL DR: Hang in there, using the CPAP is worth it. As many others have said explore different mask types.

I have very severe sleep apnea. Thanks dad for those shit genetics. I have a bi-pap. It auto adjusts the pressure.

My snoring was so bad I would get complaints from neighbors when I lived in an apartment. From what I've been told, I sounded similar to a chainsaw.

Whoever I was dating during that 6 months, thought I was dying when I slept.

The wait to get my bi-pap was fucking horrid. Took something like 6 months. During that 6 months, after I got the test, I was told a solid 8 hours of sleep was equivalent to 15 mins of sleep due to my sleep apnea. I ended up doing the uber man sleep schedule to keep my job. I would sleep in 15 minute intervals every 2 hours. It's a good thing I work from home haha. I am now a professional napper as well.

It took me ages and many masks to adjust. I wear the full on darth vadar style face mask. I prefer it to the nose only masks, as if I get sick, I am completely fucked with a plugged up nose.

That's a terrible experience.. I know when I was over 280lbs (sometimes 350lbs) I was a bad snorer and I needed naps all day long lol.. I was under the impression my size caused my lathargy, but could very well have been more serious sleep apnea.

Glad you got it sorted out and I'm sure I'll get it figured out eventually... It took everything I had not to throw the mask across the bedroom and break the machine last night, but I did some adjustments and I'm looking forward to trying it again tongiht. Hearing how much its helped you guys is really the only reason Ill keep going lol... If I never heard guys here say how good it has been for them once they figured it out, I probably would have just put the machien up for sale already to be honest
