I love my rowing machine

I absolutely love my rowing machine. I can sit and watch a show and get a full body workout with added bonus of a cardio workout.

The rowing machine muscles used while rowing equal about 84% of the total muscles in your body!
Now what other workout machine can boast these types of numbers?
Rowing machines are known as a full body workout because they exercise every major muscle group and provide a fantastic cardiovascular workout.
Rowers can expect to burn anywhere between 400-800 calories an hour on average based upon their current fitness levels.
More on the calorie topic in my article about Burning Calories With A Rowing Machine.
Using a rowing machine is also great because it is low impact, meaning it is great for people with injuries and bad knees.
So what muscles does a rowing machine work? Being that it is an almost perfect piece of workout equipment the rowing machine muscles targeted are:

  • Quads
  • Hamstrings
  • Glutes
  • Lats
  • Core
  • Shoulders
  • Triceps
  • Back
  • Biceps

Muscles Used While Rowing

Now that we did a quick overview of the different phases of a rowing machine stroke we can cover the rowing machine muscles used during each phase.

Listed are the major muscle groups targeted but if you look at the colored photos you can see some of the smaller muscle groups worked as well.

I have a concept 2 in my basement. Great machine if I could remember to get on it from time to time.

It probably is the best thing going and I tried it, boy did I try it, my wife wouldn’t leave me alone till
I did, and honestly the only thing I hate doing more than rowing is ABs.

omg I love it. but as said above my is has arms so its like rowing a boat. I can adjust the tension so I can really pull on those arms getting a nice total body workout all while watching tv lol

I always do 5 min on the rower as part of my warm up. Get a much better warm up than the bike or treadmill.

Concept 2 is one of the smoothest rowers...great machine. I want one for the house but just can't get past the $1000 price tag
I had a fluid rower... $2700. But it was awesome, filled the drum with water and then adjust the dial. It even had the comforting sound of the rushing water. Ended up selling the damn thing for $500, stupid mistakes one makes while broke😜

I’ve used one of those, they’re pretty cool

yes. they are good but the concept2 rowers have became the standard. they are in almost any gym with a rower and are the standard in competitions. when talking about times and workouts on a concept2, others users will understand exactly what you mean. it wont translate as well to users of other machines.

my 500m best is 1:43
