The human "herd" has needed to be culled for decades. Science allows us to live past our natural expectancy. Cures diseases meant to control the population by eliminating the weak.
The end won't come by war or man. But by nature itself by some massive natural "disaster" in which man cannot impede.
Maybe it's beginning now. Slowly. Maybe not in our lifetime thankfully. But In the next few hundred years something catastrophic will happen. And in what remains anarchy will ensue as when man is reduced to fighting for his survival, we'll revert back to a darker age.

The end will no doubt come because of man.How many people will this planet support?There is no infinite capability for expansion,a mindset still in vogue,despite any logical arguments to the contrary.
The funny thing is this population growth is not from the developed countries. In most of them the birth rate is lower than the death rate. On the other hand in countries where most people don't have a pot to piss in their birth rates are sky rocketing. I guess if you have nothing. sex is one of the few things you can do that is fun and largely low cost. Things will balance out. Whether we off ourselves in some pointless war, or some natural disaster, or some disease will cull a large portion of us off. Ultimately the universe will take care of our over population problem one way or another. It always has and it always will.
If you look at the worst pandemics throughout history and tally the death toll you will have roughly 322 million deaths from the top ten. That is just under the current population of the US which is at approximately 326 million. Throw in the WW 1 death toll of 17 million and the WW2 death toll of 80 million we are only at 400 million which is not even half of the population of India. We would have to have a pandemic or war like nothing we have ever seen before.

Have to agree with the idea that run away population increases will be our undoing. That and consumption, once the vast populations of China and India begin to consume like we western nations do all bets are off.
Peak oil is a myth Sorby. The Yanks have over 250 billion barrels of oil in reserve. They are tapping more everyday.

The US is now self sufficient with oil production and has become an exporter. With new technology they are finding more deposits in Texas that are huge. maybe record size. They have also found more oil in abandoned wells in Oklahoma which are also huge. What was once thought to be dry isn't.
The Chinese have found new oil in China and are searching all over Africa with some success. Extracting it is their problem.
We will eventually run out of oil but it won't be for quite a while and in the meantime we are working on alternative energy.
Peak oil was a myth to allow the USA to set up military bases all over the world to develop military hegemony of the world. If you Google Peak Oil you will find several docs about the topic. and many articles de-bunking it.
