Does working a physical job make you a better powerliting?

I work a physical job as well. I have to lift a lot of weight consistently and move it over long treks by foot on cart. I am a delivery driver. It makes me stronger functionally, but where I find it shines most is keeping me lean no matter what I eat.

LOL-did not work through my 20's-lifted weights haphazardly -meditated at an Ashram for a few yrs in my early 30's-became a Nurse in late 30's no weights since 28 yrs old- and started lifting again when 45 yrs-discovered lower reps-squatted and DL 600 x 10 reps when 48 [@195bs ] with 3 solid yrs of training-no supplements at all-curled 175 x 6 strict//head cavers the same etc.Only benched 380 as had broken shoulder 4 x's from dirtbikes.smashed 2 vertabrae not long after in late 48's so stopped much of it.Started off and on when 59 and now am strong at 69 yrs when injuries are not acting up.Recently squatted 555lb x 2 reps and back/sciatic has gone kapooy so have some reasonable and some poor days where standing up from toilet is major task right now---So I say great genetics and ability to activate nervous system is primary activator for real strength.Size is somewhat incidental as there are many small people of both genders who are seriously strong.Added a video of me squatting 525 with cheap[$20]chinese knee sleeves a month ago before back went out.It is #6 rep on my 6 sets of 1 rep day-the bar weighs 55lbs--forgive the caption as some young guy I do not know asked to video it and PM'ed it to me..lol-Fat now-have lost 27lbs since xmas-hope to keep going down.

well, ive been working in 8 inches of mud all week and its fucking up my workouts for sure

I would say from.personal experience....no. working on drilling rigs can be extremely demanding and I feel as though it has hindered my progress. Mind you this could be due to no consistent meal timing or the constant 12 hr days....hmmm. honestly now that i ponder the thought I'm not 100% sure LO

I think it can make you stronger, but not a better powerlifter. Rest and food intake between is huge, but I guess if your hips and glutes are locked up from sitting on your ass all day isn't good. My job now is a good mix of ass time and movement, I can eat when ever I want, which is usually 8+ times, has help me a lot.
