Why is Canada such a pain in the ass?

I have a condition where my body does not make stomach acid anymore. Everytime I eat a meal, I have to take betaine HCL pills or my body can not digest anything.. Very long explanation, but if I don't take the pills, I slowly become non functional.. It's a awful disorder if you don't take your bills.. You get no nutrition from your food, you don't absorb a lot of the vitamins and minerals etc.. I had 2 university doctors offer me a medical leave from work when I was living with this condition, but not yet diagnoses or treated for it.. that's how shitty it is.

Pills are expensive, and my health plan does not cover them.

Amazon is the cheapest place to buy it from a Canadian supplier.... 58$ dollar bottle of betaine HCL will last me 6 or 7 days.. Thats it... I was spending 2,700$ a year on these pills.. I did this for about 7 years, I didn't have a choice.

I found a company "bulk supplments.com" where I could buy betaine HCL powder in bulk and just cap them myself. It worked out to 27$ for 30 days.. OR 325$ year..

I went to order another 10lbs tonight and when I went to check out, I get the message "this product is not available for delivery to Canada"..

After some googling, I am basically finding out its a circle jerk to force me to buy from Canadian suppliers.. Canadian suppliers are allowed to sell it, but USA suppliers can not ship it to Canada in any quantity..

fucking assholes..

How many MG per serving do you use? I can get these in Walmart in the US, 240 capsules @750mg per capsule for $17

I take 3000mg each meal. That bottle would last me 10 days. Is that 17$ USD?

I really appreciate the offer. I'd need 36 bottles to last a year. I am emailing that bulk supplement place and asking what's up with not shipping to Canada now and see if i can work with them.. If not, I am going to try to get someone in the USA to ship me like 20kg.. I think that's my best option.. If not, I would take you up on your offer if you are willing.

Yikes!!
I have shipped to a store like a UPS outlet that accepts the package and holds it for 2wks. Cost me $12USD. Just search on google for a city near you. I did mine in Buffalo NY. They will not forward though.

Found a chinese supplier of betaine HCL last night.. They make it for agriculutral feed? We talked for awhile and they will not ship to me unless I buy 23,000 kilograms :ROFLMAO:

I feel like I'm going to have to Walter White things here

hmmm.. I'm not sure how this woudl help me since they will not ship it into Canada? Are you saying you shipped it somewhere in the USA and then drove down to pick it up? I'm very far from the boarder, too far to drive it... Additionally, I have no passport lol.. and if you get caught bringing it in you could be in a bit of shit I would think.. its not illegal substance, but I would need to bring back like 3 or 4 years supply to be worth it.. and questions would likely be asked for that amount I would think

here is what I would do. @animal-inside
betaine HCL pills is not a prescription drug so I would contact border services and explain your situation and ask them to confirm in writing that your able to import that amount of the drug and the amount you can bring into Canada.
next step contact US border (I googled the one near me and they had a phone number listed) tell them your story offer to show the letter from Canadian Border service that they are fine with you bringing it in.
ask them for a letter confirming they are okay with you bringing it in and the amount you can bring in.
third step look for an import export company and provide them with all the paper work you have and pay them the fee to import the product

key is do everything in the open so no one faces any repercussions for bringing the product in

All looks doable thank you.. Lots of steps, but hey if I can bring in 50lbs it would worth it.

So I have been on the website for Canada Border agency trying to fill their form out.. it keeps saying error when I try to submit it.. there's nothing wrong or missing.. it keeps saying "warning, messages with profanity will not be answered"... I have no profantiy in my message so I don't know WTF is up with it.

If your not to far. Print everything about the product and drive down

You can also drive up to USA border crossing go in talk to them

Pm I can explain

I ship audio gear to a UPS outlet in Buffalo then go pick it up. Someone offered to pick up if you so I’m just giving an option.

Try Bull’s suggestion as it might avoid any potential issues. They can give you a yea or nay. I have called them in the past for advise. They confirmed it was a yea (audio gear related) however I did ask for the person’s name in case any issues and straight out said “just in case may I please have your name or badge number so if there are any issues we can all speak about it. The person replied “no but don’t worry about it, I just asked my supervisor and they said it is fine”

It was fine when I crossed back into Canada. I have made major purchases in the past and been referred to commercial customs as well. Easy process there too. CBSA doesn’t tug chains just for the hell of it.

If it is sold in Canada that’s a wonderful thing. Factory sealed I strongly suggest but again Bull has a great idea.

I didn't get a chance to call today from work. I'll try Monday.. I do have about 2 months powder left so its not a panick yet, but I am guessing the process you describe might take a bit of time to get through.

I live too far to drive. I'll have to call.

Yes they have added rules on to rules to import, especially if you are a business.
I buy from a US spice company every year, in 2020 I had to get a safe food certificate. Thankfully I have all the protocols in place they need because of my inspection level. But last march they changed it that now you need a bond to get your goods across (guess governemtn really needs its duty, gst money), even if I have never paid duty of gst in the past because it ids food I am importing. So I can give them $5000 to hold on to forever, or I pay $500 for another company to bond me.

Then I had to go on to a portal to now give my broker company permission to even broker my goods.

So many steps I never had to do before.

This will be the last time I bring in products form the US. The spice I buy I will get another spice company to try and imitate it.

But so far it has taken over a week to get it brokered after all this bullshit. A year ago it took one day.

All I can think of is they are making it tough so you buy Canada only.

Government answer to that is "we are pushing back against Trump" by hurting them by having Canadians buy local...

ya fuck you I am paying an extra 2300$ for something that's only worth 325$..

free market dictates actual value.. Free market says the value is 325$.. The rest is government horse shit.
