Work 8 years if you are a MLA in this Province and you have pension for life. I know a gent, like the rest of us who has to save their own money / company matches and you deal with ups and downs of the market, who worked his ass off for this one reason. He was elected to serve his second 4 years, and then we pay him for the rest of his life for a pension that is not impacted by the ups and downs of the market. You don't run out until you die.
There are large companies and the highest tier in the company have a guaranteed pension - typically 60% of your best 3 years averaged with no taxes taken off much like long - term disability. The people who work the hardest and make the money for the company just have a matching contributing pension - if any at all.
That is why employees who have benefits pay 100% of the long - term disability, so you can get 60% of your income, but there are no taxes. The difference is there is a short-term disability benefit (for the non-Gov workers) provided by the Gov't which is crap (for the average Joe/Mary). It is enticement to get back to work as your will suffer if only one income or the other income provider doesn't make that much.
One of my relatives worked for the Gov't for 20 years showing up late, going home for a 2 hour lunch, and leaving early. I know this as he would bitch about it and my relative who was married to him who worked in the public sector, would tell him to shut up, as he has it better than everyone
He was middle management and made approximately 85,000 at the end of his career. The Gov't took his best 3 years income and averaged it, and he either gets 60/70% of his pay tax free forever. He also had every second Friday off - just a day because of the stress of the job apparently. He is married into the family and used to complain about the stress of his job in his 5-6 hour days, because he would make recommendations and his superiors would say no. Who gives a shit - they said no, but he was a drunk/chronic weed abuser who had a messed up brain and could not deal with saying no. At the end for the last few years he went on disability and got the same pay, then retired as I mentioned. He now works, so he can live very well - driving for transport companies being paid very well by the hour for 25 hours a week.
Does this seem reasonable. I work my ass off, save my money and if the market shits the bed good luck. If I go on long term disability for stress - you will usually get paid 60% tax free for two years and then a clause kicks in and says you have to go back to work if you can perform ANY job. If you can mop floors at MacDonalds - you must do it. You may not be able to do your old job as you can't the stress, but you are forced back into any job and they cut you off. That is the average benefits plan for you/me. The Gov't has the best of the best - it is completely fucked.
