What’s your career!

Someone was telling me a story a couple weeks ago about a guy that brought his mother to a job interview.
After 20 years in the concrete curb and gutter hiring position I have never seen that :ROFLMAO:LoL.
But I have seen a 18 year kid say that he would out work me in half an hour, I was 40 then. That kid didn't show up the next day...
I'm 54 now and its hard to find young worker that want to work in laborious concrete jobs.

When I hire for students each summer, I get at least one that their parent don’t fuck off and pretty much does the interview for them.
I know the parents are excited, but I never hire those kids.

Had 2 this year.

Had a kid last year I hired, and when he couldn’t figure out how to tie on an apron it was a big red flag, end of the day he argued he didn’t want to mop, I let him go that day. Then his dad came in later asking me what he did wrong, and how could he fix it. All I thought was,”I am sorry you should have made him do something around the house, I am not putting in effort to raise your kid when I can hire one that already has these attributes”. Like I said was thought, but didn’t say it. I just told him the kid that was leaving decided to stay.

Only thing I hav noticed is the kids try to pull the slickly I am puking thing a lot more. I just had 2 doing that, I fired one, the other is never sick anymore, lol.

Thoose figures seem a bit high for starting out. But who knows. I started years ago so wages could be higher now. Problem with carpentry is is not a mandatory red seal. So anyone can do it, where as electrical or gas, you have to be ticketed to do it. Hvac and gasfitting is all low voltage for the most part. I work on furnaces but all the diagnosing is past the transformer on 24v side and fairly simple circuits. Im no electrical genuis and I can do it..lol. I just never liked electrical cause you can see it and it can kill you..lol. I thought about electrical but plumbing was just so easy. Its like glueing lego together. Lmao. Plus I couldn't do electrical cause the old saying goes.
"The hardest part about being and electrician is, calling home to tell your parents your gay." Hahaha I had to
Mine took it well.
