TRT + hair loss… am I overthinking this?

Yo bros,

Just started TRT and one thing I keep getting worried about is hair loss long term.

Every YouTube video I watch of guys on TRT for 5+ years, they’re basically bald or heavily receded. I know that’s probably biased, but it’s hard to unsee once you notice it.

Is this just genetics doing its thing regardless? Or does TRT actually speed it up because of higher DHT?

Would love to hear from guys actually on it long term — is hair loss basically inevitable or just survivorship bias on YouTube?

Has anyone been on TRT for a decade and still have hair?

Mainly genetic like everyone says certain compounds could accelerate it more certain mechanism of actions could cause it lower shbg causing more free test and conversion to happen main thing is if your worried topical growth product like minoxidil and 5ar inhibitors sorry for yap fest tried keeping it short

Been on TRT for 15 years and have a full head of hair.
Sweet! What are your thoughts after 15 years?

What a journey it must have been (still is).

What dose did you start at and what dose did you land on now?

Great to hear you still have your hair - it seems like a rare occurrence.

similar to flexappeal, a few more years than him and same as my brother, dad etc who are not on TRT or any juice at all, thinning a bit

This is been beat to death but a good question and concern for many all the same. It pops up all the time. With testosterone, you can do a few things to retain your hair. Regardless of the ads out there about DHT not having anything to do with it, it has been proven to.
1. If you are going to go bald at some point, TRT or testosterone and many other androgens just speeds up the process.
2. Testosterone is one of the easier ones to protect yourself from. Per @Funnyman - propecia or dutasteride both work at slowing it down or stopping it completely for some. I also find saw palmetto helps for testosterone based hair loss in the same way as it helps your prostate (like propecia) for prostatic benign hyperplasia.
3. It runs in one side of my family and I have lost some in my 40's, but I have always been a TRT guy or the odd cycle which is considerably less than the average guy who blasts.
4. If you stick to TRT - it will be easier to control than if you get into the non-hair friendly compounds. For example - I find Deca and boldenone easy on the hair. Primo is harder but it just increases shedding and then it grows back - at least it does for me.
5. There are excellent products you buy that you put on topical such as propecial, dutasteride, RU5881 at minoxidilmaxx if you prefer for it to be more absorbed into the scalp and not through the liver/blood to the scalp. I have used some of Minoxidilmaxx products and like them.

If you are diagnosed with low T, the benefits from a health/how you feel/sexual benefits beat the concern of shedding some hair from my perspective. Keep in mind you may shed and it may come back, I still go through shedding phases and wonder what is going on, but it stops and when I look at pics of 5 years ago - I have as much hair today as I did 5 years ago but not as much as when I was 20 lol.

No finasteride or anything?
What’s your TRT dose if you don’t mind me asking and how often do you run blast cycles?

This is very reassuring to hear - most of the men in my family still have a full healthy head of hair in their 60s and 70s

Appreciate this!

My head shape isn’t suitable for balding haha I would look ridiculous - that’s why I am so concerned about it

Noted all of the listed products and supplements above - will be sure to dive deeper into those if I find myself shedding.

Thanks for taking the time - great write up - and duly noted.

Answers in bold are all a range, nothing I do is "typical" or constant over the years, all dependent on specifics of health, family, careers etc. Been training for 50 years now.
No finasteride or anything? Nope, I try with varying success to use the least amount of differnt compounds possible, fin sounds like trouble to me.
What’s your TRT dose if you don’t mind me asking and how often do you run blast cycles? 100-160 TRT. Cycles from 4- 25 weeks, 300-6 or 700? total all compounds maybe 1-3 times a year, Haven't done one in a few years now really. Test itself doesn't seem to cause any problems.

This is very reassuring to hear - most of the men in my family still have a full healthy head of hair in their 60s and 70s. I'm in that age group. My hair is actually pretty good just thinning and I'm fucking thankful for that cause I shaved it once for the convenience and like yourself it's a big understatement to say it ain't pretty. lots of abuse, resembles a beat up pop can.
