Tips on landing a job on the rigs

Avoid condos like the plague right now. Even the builders can’t unload them. The government is thinking about bailing them out by setting up a loan scheme for another investment company to buy the extra stock, so the builders can’t have their money free’d up to start other housing projects. I figure there will be no money in condos for likely 20 years, because they will slowly dump off the inventory and us tax payers will pick up the difference on the failed loans.
I appreciate hearing what you heard. Around Vancouver and outskirts they will be sold but they absolutely are not selling fast. I foresee them maintaining their value around my area but I don't necessarily think they will go up much. I wouldn't buy a new condo and I wouldn't buy a very old one unless it was a well maintained all concrete building with over 1000sqft of floor space.

I'm not sure about anywhere else though. The BC govt is keeping space extremely limited and the lack of parks and SkyTrain extension are forcing people outwards. Again, I don't see them going up much and it depends on what and definitely where you bought.

Lots of companies here in Alberta hiring all the time.

Eagle, Goliath, Ensign, farm boys are major ones i see hiring new guys.

Also don't be so stuck on the rigs, there's tons of other patchwork that make as much if not more for less physical labor

Expect to be around lots of drugs especially at work when working with snubbers, driller, service rigs etc

Theres also lots of entry opportunities with work such as water transfer, testing, wireline, frac operators etc.

8 years ago i was clearing $950 a day doing water transfer with my truck just babysitting a pump watching movies lol

26yrs in the patch. Started on rigs in 1999 and currently running mud. Drilling rigs are going through 'breakup' which goes on until road bans are cleared so hiring may be on a freeze (typically around May long weekend but differs yr to yr). I personally worked for Akita Drilling for 24 of those years but I would try Precision Drilling as they take on a lot of green hands. Try to get on one of their slant super singles as they are good rigs with relatively lower physical work that when I started....trust me as you dont want to be physically destroyed by the time you get 10+yrs in
