I cannot stress enough the importance of a solid introductory post when you join a new community. That introductory thread you post should tell folks not only a bit about who you are, but also some of your background. Including your history on the forums. The existing members of the community read this information and based on this information your accepted into the community as a person not just some username. Then as you start to post people have an real sense of who you are.
