sleep apnea

I would like to mention that there is lots of good content on YouTube if you just search CPAP.
You can learn alot there to help you to figure out what will work the best for you. There is a ton of content there.
I really had no choice, I had to stick with it and struggle through the trials and tribulations due to serious health complications.
I mentioned that the first night I wore the thing for 5.5hrs on the first night but I still struggled with it after that too. I have been using it since August of this year, it has seriously changed my life and all positives. I used to live with headaches daily that would dissipate as the day progressed. I was depriving my brain of vital oxygen every single time I slept.
Stay the course @animal-inside, it takes some time man. You can do it, be positive and have the right mindset.

For sure I'm not calling it quits lol.. I'll keep fine tuning.

Part of me is thinking of taking a sleeping pill just to "get started" or something just to relax me because once that mask is on for awhile and I feel like its hard to breathe I work myself up. Last night I was laying there wondering if anyone ever died of suffocation on a cpap machine lol

Lol, I have had the same feeling lol!
When I get that feeling I just try to breathe really deeply and slowly and then I ususlly fall asleep quicker.

It took me a while as well, I bet for the first week or so, I would wake at 4 or 5 am and take it off. I still do that somethimes if I find it uncomfortable, but I figure the first 5 or 6 hours of good sleep is better than nothing.

You’ll get there. Wit it’ll you get your first full night of sleep, you won’t want to get up, you may just lay there breathing thru the machine for a while, lol.

I have been using mine for almost 2 years.

I used to fall asleep when I drove long distances, or need to nap all the time, don’t need to anymore.

I think I fell asleep with it for about 30 mins last ngiht.. then woke up and knew it wasn't happenning and took it off. I have a difficult week at work so Icouldn't sacrafice fighting with it and trying to keep it on.

It still feel like I can't get enough air... I know when I breathe in, I'm getting more air then before.. but its the exhale, it feels like its too difficult.

I ordered a nasal mask last night. I think that will be a game changer for me.. I can't seem to keep my mouth closed with the full mask and I know I am a nose breather.. Its like it forces my mouth open and then I'm "off" and can't sleep

So it seems like I can fall asleep with the mask on now, but I am waking up about 45-60 mins after falling asleep.

I'm going to turn down the pressure a bit more tonight.

Yes sir, best thing that you can do is just fine tune it until you're able to be successful for a full nights sleep.
When you're trying a different style of mask you will have to adjust air pressure again. There are settings on your machine as well that ask the type of mask.

I was going to say too, that with the nasal mask you can always blow some air out of your mouth if yoiu need to while you're getting started. I sometimes do this in the first couple of minutes even now as I get that feeling once in awhile especially if I am a bit conjested at the start, this usually helps it to go away.

So I need a CPAP machine if someone can help me.

I got a sleep test done 9 years ago.

Woke up around 300x and was diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea.

So I decided to inquire about getting a CPAP machine as now I have insurance.

However, the sleep clinic I did the test 9 years ago say I need to redo the test again if I want the CPAP through insurance (if it shows bad results).

But I don't want to be hooked up again. I can't sleep with those wires hooked up anyway.

Anyone know how I can get around this and just go through insurance or have a link?

I'm a big dude, I'm getting tonsil surgery in April to help with breathing.

Choosing to not get a machine because of no insurance is ludicrous, you can get the whole setup for $1000.00 and thats brand new, everything you need.
Take the time & read this whole thread, will help you immensely.
You're killing yourself slowly with untreated sleep apnea, I was doing the same to myself.

THe sleep clinic I went through just used a ring.. I didn't even know it was on my finger it was so comfortable.. You have to downlaod an app prior to using it.. The clinic mailed me the ring and I mailed it back, but they prefer you to pick it up in person.

I did not qualify for insurance because I was mild and insurance required moderate.

I bought the machine anywyas.. Here is the cheapest place I found https://cpapsupply.ca/

That website says purchases require a script, but they never asked for mine and the online purchase didn't require it.. Guessing if you are going through insruance you'll need the updated script before you buy it to claim it on insurance.

It takes time to get the sleep ring, wait for results, follow up with dr etc.. It was an honest month before I had my script. might as well start the process sooner than later.

Hey, how has it been going? You getting used to the mask yet?

I have been hating my mask lately, couple nights last week I tortured my wife with my snoring, lol.

The stupid whooping cough thing still hasn’t cleared completely and it has affected my breathing. It is going to take months to get back to normal.

Haven't been able to sleep with it for more than an hour and some nights, like last night, I couldn't fall asleep with it at all.

Slowly figuring things out. I think I have the pressure thing figured out, now the mask straps have to be so tight to make the mask seal due to my beard and my giant face that it's just not tolerable.

The nasal mask is on the way though.

Yeah I would take it off at around 3 am when I first wore it. I still do sometimes.

Ever since that stupid whooping cough, sometimes I'll feel like I am choking on my own spit, so I'll take the mask off when I wake choking. I can't wait till that goes away, looked it up and could take as long as 6 months to be back to normal.

It will be much better once you have a better mask.

Oddly enough, I slept from 11:00 to 6:30 with the mask on last night. I even woke up brielfy around 3 and didn't feel like tearing the mask off so I fell back to sleep. Woke up at 6:30 and was still ok with the mask.

I didn't tighten it as much as I was supposed to according to the machine.. and the machine told me my mask was leaking when I woke up.. Oh well, its still progress.

i bought little mask strap covers on temu for my machine and a cloth fitting to go over the hose to keep the hose from doing the stupid heating thing that makes the air too hot for me. little quality of life things that help a ton with the comfort. my machine says my mask leaks too i just ignore it. a little leakage is no big deal, it still is doing its job

Lol... so on the way home from work I told the wife I was able to sleep the whole night with the mask on for the first time.. Wife said "ya.. and you snored all night.. I woke up to you sounding like you were choking.. wasn't sure if I should wake you up so you could take it off or not"..

If I'm still snoring under the mark, I need to up the pressure correct?

Yep. But if you can’t get the mask to seal then you may have to wait till you get the nasal mask.
I bet you were snoring with less severity with some pressure.

Mine has never triggered a leaking warning even if it’s leaking. If my mask is leaking the hissing wakes me up.

My machine has a "test mask" button thing.. Before I go to bed I'll test the mask fit and it tells you if its leaking.. I have to tighten it so much to get it to seal, but I know when I move an inch, it leaks again regardless.. Last night I didn't tighten it as much as I needed to because I just didn't want to get frustrated with it.. I think I slept better regardless of the leak.

I'll turn it up tonight and leave the straps as is.

What is your pressure? Mine was set to 5.8. I'll try 6.5 tonight

my pressure averaged at 14.1 last night. think you’re gonna have to pump that up a ways for the results you want
