Saying goodbye again

Morning,

Part venting, part therapy, part just because she was part of the family and I think I should...all 17 lbs of terrier almost made it to 15. She was a unique breed and I won't get into any pics as any person who is in the dog protection world would recognize her on videos and making people laugh. She would run trials and try to to protect the family but she was 3 apples tall but made to kill large vermin so had the jaw strength of a mid to small large dog and the teeth size of a large job. Funny looking creature that was not really my dog. She was more so my woman's dog, but she knew who was the boss was as I picked her up like a cat and pick her up, when she would lose her mind and decide to take on a 150 lb Cane Corso or try to attack the Akita in class we all warned everyone about.
It was a laugh to see a dog I could almost run as fast as and leap up 5 feet and latch on. Never used her in a real protection opportunity as she was too small, but full of the attitude.
She had multiple issues and they turned neurological very quickly and I made the decision for the family. Had to do what was best for her and it was peaceful and she was losing her quality of life.
She was a unique Terrier and might great you like she never saw you in a month, or maybe turn and walk in and get a drink lol. Attacked ever dog that weighed more than 100 lbs and they knew enough not to fight back and I would intervene of my dearly passed Bouvier who protected her over the years when she was getting old.

To my little snapper, you made the house fuller. You will be missed but never forgotten. I have more videos of people who usually are in pain to some degree in dog suits laughing their ass off because a 17 lb dog was attached to their arm acting like she was 117 lbs.
She was more attached to my partner than me, if you walked into the bedroom (and she didn't know you). it would be like a cartoon with a flying dog off the bed trying to rip off your face. I learned that in a home test when she bit onto the cage the dog dummy wore over his head.
Made me laugh, will be missed, can't be replaced.
I’m sorry for your loss. She sounds like a truly unique dog—small in size but clearly a big presence, with that kind of drive and personality you don’t come across often.

It’s never an easy decision, but it sounds like you handled it with responsibility and did what was right for her given how things progressed.

Dogs like that bring a certain energy into a home—both the chaos and the character—and it leaves a gap when they’re gone.

I will try to keep this short, but it will be difficult. We always have large dogs for protection work, but recently a well known breeder (who needs to physically hurt), was a chameleon and had 43 dogs removed from his premises (charges pending) - dogs in cages, not fed, not given water, and he was getting a heat pump installed and heat pump installer walked by the building the dogs were in and smelled something that seemed like a person died and called the RCMP. They came and called the SPCA. Most dogs were so underweight, they had to be taken from the premises, to the SPCA, fostered on puppy food due to their caloric needs (even though most were considered adults), once gained some weight and would settle, back to the SPCA for adoption. We could not take at least one (if not two) - there are very few dogs as they are so underweight - they are slowly bringing them in, making sure they are dog/people friendly and then up for adoption. They received dozens of applications for this 5 year old intact male. Very intelligent, friendly, but clearly confused. No sense in waiting his lazy man name and recall training started this morning hence my late sign on. He is under 40 lbs (will never be a protection dog). The breed is supposed to be 40-65 lbs as males and he was around 28-30 when they took him. We are also adding another Bouvier pup and luckily this breed is very good with other dogs and happy to be low in the pack.
The people who were abusing the dogs, will be charged and run out of the area they live in short order and suspect they will move the bigger city which is where many of the dog people are. I suspect they will have to move off this small Province. I have no words to describe people like this - neglect or physical abuse is the same.
The dog will be given a stable home, with rules, limitations, and repercussions with time, but for the first few days my main goal is to let him to come to us in his own time. You can see after a few hours, he wanted to sleep on my lap. He will be crate trained for his safety when I leave the house.
Watches TV as they are a swimming hunting breed for birds, clearly intelligent as never had toys before but eats and drinks to fast as possible because he was never given enough food. I hand feed all dogs when they are new so that is not an issue, and then I let him play with ball full of food. He is on 5 cups of puppy food due to his caloric needs as he is being walked miles every day now.
I still revert to the fact the RCMP/SPCA investigation is ongoing so they can't disclose it via the news but it will come out and when it does, they will be pariahs in the dog community - known handler for dog shows and owner of dogs for shows. Apparently these must have been dogs to breed and sell puppies living in deplorable - urine/feces filled crates without being fed, walked, no stimulation for an intelligent animal, and not given enough water.
I am still figuring out the dog, but if the world equals out things the motherfuckers will be punished legally and otherwise.
Anyway, one for the moment (maybe more) as this is what I plan to do when I retire - look after and rehabilitate abused dogs.
Who in the fuck can live with themselves knowing you are letting dogs or any animal slowly waist away?
This Province is small and I am sure Karma will come through.

Would love to know names if you ever deemed it appropriate GR.

It’s a small world. He better not be in mine.

Just look up 43 dog seizure by well known dog handler in the CKC. His name is listed on a few facebook sites/Reddit/and other places on the internet. If you can't find it, PM me. Everyone in the dog community for shows all know and his job showing dogs / looking after dogs is done. As far as I am concerned, who gives a shit, how can you starve, living in crates for years, have dogs living in feces and urine with their hair matted in feces, urine scalding, terribly underweight as they were not fed, rotten teeth and open sores. It is all written in reports by the rescue officers. None were housebroken - even the mature dogs (it took him 3 days to relax enough to mark outside, learn that that door means I have to go out - and hasn't had a mistake in a week. He never had to use his brain, he was just a beautiful purebred dog used for breeding so this piece of shit could sell the puppies through a proxy (I assume as he did not sell dogs that anyone knows of, but why would you have 43 non-neutered dogs (all purebred and in particular this breed is considered rare).
I was wrong in my original post as I have been given as much information as they are allowed, as I called the SPCA, RCMP, and the Gov't since seeing the psychological damage it has done to an innocent dog. The breed is 40-65 lbs (male), and when they rescued him he was in his 20's. He just hit 40 lbs, and is being fed 5 cups of puppy food so he is strong enough, walks, putting on muscle, and not skin and bones - so he can be fixed. That is a ridiculous amount of calories for a small dog, but he is still underweight. They would not foster to adopt a dog until they gained enough weight and were healthy enough. Teeth pulled, sores cleaned and healed, but the psychological damage is lasting. He is one of the heavier dogs with no serious sores.

My buddy is a kind, would never show a tooth, now lets us clip his nails, and brush his hair, but any strange noise and he is very timid, does not trust people and takes a long time to warm up. I gave him a week to settle in - he was so worried if we would leave or something would happen he would not lay down, he would fall asleep standing up, and catch himself as he fell until 4-5 hours later he would lay down for a few minutes and sleep.
Any decent fucking human being would do their best to help rehabilitate if they knew how.
He now trusts us both, and comes to us for scratches, petting, and affection, he is learning basic commands to wait at the door until I go out and follow, is learning to play fetch, and likes toys, I train his for 10 minutes twice a day (after the first week), when he is hungry as dogs like to work for their food, it is natural for them. He is damaged and loses his mind in a crate (for his own safety) when we both have to leave. He tries so hard to get out ramming his head between the metal bars he rubbed all the hair off the top of his nose and it is turning red. I video tape my dogs when I am not home so I can determine when they can be trusted. He just has to figure out this is here forever home and I don't give up on animals. Considering his first 5 years of life, dogs move forward fast but this is the slowest I have ever experienced working with an abused or aggressive dog I take in to my house before they go back to their forever home.

The bizarre part of all of this is there is an investigation, but it is completely f'ed. The RCMP are not involved at all once they showed up and determined the smell was not a rotting human body. It is the Gov't - department of agriculture. How can he not be charged yet as it is well over a month? Not even a charge and then a court date. Just an investigation.
Anyway, better stop writing - this stuff makes me beyond angry.

Thank you for sharing that and thank you for taking that dog in and giving it a good, safe home. Just makes me see red when I hear things like that.

Just read the MSM version of things. Not a lot of specific information due to the investigation I guess. If you ever hear about what happens to this guy, I would love an update if you happen to think about it. Thanks GR.

The RCMP are not involved which is bizarre. Working with dogs for 20 plus years, I am decent at reading their behaviours - not bragging, just living with stable protection breeds and rescues that need a stable life who make great family members but need a lot more work. I have noticed, complete fluke he stepped on the food on a bowl when I was getting ready to hand feed him and it was a free for all, gobbling up as quick as possible. If this prick even had 30 dogs - based on this dogs behaviours I suspect he took some food and threw it on the floor and the bigger / more dominant dogs got the food and the smaller / more submissive dogs ate what they could.
He is not a big dog and not a breed you would expect to fight for food, etc. so it would explain being 40% underweight. How on earth could have enough time for a life, job, family, and feed 40 dogs individually?
Anyway, his name is out and it is the Gov't doing the investigation so I have no idea if it is done as I keep asking and they tell me they can't tell me anything because they are still investigating. I will make an appointment based on another reason, and meet with the Minister and ask her face to face if nothing is done and he is not jailed / fined and not allowed to own pets ever again.
I know you don't know me, but I am persistent and an animal advocate. If nothing is done and this is swept under the rug, the media and social media will be enlightened by 'someone'.
For the time being I am fostering to adopt as he had to be fixed, and once that is done he can be adopted. He is one messed up dog, when eating he jumps if there is a noise or a sudden movement, did not understand praise as no one ever praised him, any sudden movements or loud voice even if a happy voice caused him to get stressed and run away from the room.
He will be a work in progress, but he is house broken in two weeks, eats from my hand now, and is learning come - 5 years being in a crate or just left in feces and urine for 5 years with other dogs, it takes a lot of patience to deal with the pace he learns at.
Anyway, as info comes out - if it gets published I will post it. If it isn't, I will push it to get published so everyone knows and the abusers become pariahs.
