Reta For Slowing Aging?

Can you qualify something as a longevity drug that is basically just fending off obesity and the metabolic diseases associated with such?

Seems misleading to me.... if people are consuming themselves to death, a drug that helps people eat less, isn't exactly helping folks to live longer....its only helping them not over consume themselves to death....that's not extending one's life exactly....its helping people to save them from themselves and their own unhealthy compulsive behavior.

It shouldn't be a "magic pill" that just excuses bad behavior....and labeled a miracle life extender. People already have that power ( mostly) if they at least semi conscious of what they eat and move their ass.

Perhaps the thrifty genotype hypothesis is a thing, I know me mudders side is riddled with metabolic disease, and I too struggle with pre diabetic numbers with my blood sugar these days as well....but under this thought process....I still land on...not a life extender.

However given the interpretation being administered here...I suppose it somewhat fits the argument. I just don't like the idea of this argument as a generalized broad brush.

Fuck my life...the world is a fucked up place.

@biguglynewf Great response!
A few years ago my vet started taking Metformin because according to him it was likely to 'extend' his life by 10 years according to science. He wanted to get me on it but I don't take medicine that I don't need.

As for GLPs I believe you have pinpointed the problem "It shouldn't be a "magic pill" that just excuses bad behavior....and labeled a miracle life extender. "

I haven't used a GLP or Reta so I cannot comment on efficacy or anything. But, using your logic @biguglynewf wearing a seatbelt, brushing your teeth, drinking water, exercising, etc. could all fall under the category of extending your life. I'm not looking for the fountain of youth but I often wonder about how good many of these new products are that are actually curing diseases that I don't have so the drug would likely give no net benefit to my consuming it.

There's alot of chatter about Reta and I wondered if it gives any benefit other than blood sugar control.

Thanks @biguglynewf for your honest perspective on this.

Brushing your teeth, wearing a seatbelt, drinking water, exercising doesn't have any negative side effects.

You see a vet rather than a doctor. Interesting. Is it because you can get in for appointments quicker? Do they recommend metformin for all their patients or just the upright ones?

Vet was seeing positive results in the journals. I just never went for it because I don't have blood sugar issues but I do like the telomere lengthening and longevity aspect of anything that can help me.

Yes I am currently on vet products and for as long as I can it will stay that way. My new vet is very agreeable to assist.
