When I started lifting about 30 years ago I went to a very hardcore gym.. I was 16 yrs old.. My hands started getting torn up. So I bought a pair of grizzly lifting gloves.. and I actually liked lifting in them, but then I started to notice only the douche bags in the gym wore gloves and all the guys I considered normal did not.. I never wore those gloves again.. I think I wore them for a week.

By douche bag guys, I mean those skinny guys who walked around the gym like they were huge, acted big and tough but they weren't etc..

A quick fix is to just stare them in the face across the gym floor as juice and pump is flowing through your veins and with the right death stare and hold, their stinkers usually shiver and they immediately shrink and go hide behind a machine…always does the trick

So I don't get calluses - when I lift alot it happens - I still get them - just not as bad. And if the bar has a sharp knurl - just prevents a bleeding sore spot - ie - if I'm doing heavy lat pulldowns.
