Well one last bad habit left to quit and that cigarettes... i had set my quit date for march 19th but i made up my mind today. Today is my last day... at the end of the day i'm throwing out what i have left and setting my mindset to being a non smoker.

lets hear some success stories of any ex smokers on here. How did you pull it off, what helped you overcome the cravings. anything you have to share, lets hear it. I'll need all the motivation i can get...

cheers.

If you go into a pharmacy and say your trying to quit smoking, you get 3 months of nicotine gum for free

The taxes you've paid on smokes for however long youve been smoking, take it. Its not a freebie from the government, you've paid easily 200x what they're giving you in nicotine gum on darts already.

Oh that's interesting.. I've used the nicorette lozenges with good success and I wonder if those are offered as well.

theres also quit smokiing things online which will send you big packs of patches and gum if you agree to do some follow up online questions.

I quit on February 12, 2022. I also quit drinking though. 35 years of the smokes, but they were tied in to booze in a big way, so I just dropped it all.

Your mindset is key to it all, I think. In my case, and I hope you can cultivate this attitude as well, it was simply that I had had enough. It really wasn't any more complicated than "fuck this noise".

Everything has been better ever since. I wish you all the best in your efforts. (y)

Thanks for the advice I’ll look it, never heard of this. Thinking more cold turkey but if I can’t I’ll do what ever it takes. Found this thing called the CBQ method online that sounded interesting so going to attend their free webinar tomorrow and see what that’s all about

Yeah mindset is everything in every aspect of life. Yeah “fuck this noise” is kind of why I decided not to wait till my quit date. Just gotta keep this motivation once the cravings hit. Thanks for sharing

I reduced my smoking to just one night a week wiht a few beer, did that for over a decade.
So every week I would go thru withdrawl. I would not get angry when I had the cravings but would laugh at myself for being a bit fuzzy headed. The first 3 days are the worst, then you think about it, but you don’t have the anxiety chest feeling anymore.

But even that was still bad, so i switched to vaping about a year ago. I do not miss smoking cigerettes one little bit. Even bought a pack once for old times sake and only smoked 2 and they tasted like shit.

Now with vaping I have cut that down a lot (I don’t do it around anyone, so as far as everyone is conserned I do not do it)

Once I get back from Costa Rica tommorow, I will give up the vaping as well. This will be far easier than smoking because by vaping I had massivly cut down my nicotine useage. I can go all day without a puff and not get any of the regular cravings.

Now that being said, once I quit, it will be strange, i have done this since I was 14, it is part of my life. But I don’t really want cancer, so its time.

Ya see I’m about to start in a new mine soon. So an other motivator for me to speed up my quit date is, I figure if I can quit before starting there then I can set new habits as a non smoker in a new work environment because underground was alway the worst place for triggers for me. On my days off I can smoke 10-15 smokes. During a 10 hour shift I’ll easily smoke a full pack. And I’m not working now. Probably got a full two weeks before the hiring process is done for this new job before my first shift so I figure I should be passed the brain fog period. I hope

I'm an oddball because I smoked for years and I can quit easy breezy as it's all just a mental game. I'd pick it up here and there and then remember how it makes me stink, ruins my lung capacity, gives me phlegm, etc, and then I'll just stop again. Honestly the one thing that really got me to not waste my time with it again is that it's just too f-ing expensive and I can spend that $ on other things.

That said I have friends that go to/from China and would bring me back cartons and they are waaay better than the garbage they sell here. I still have half a carton of delicious Chinese ciggs in the toolbox in my garage, in a few zip locks to keep em fresh. Years go by and I still havent smoked them. Maybe one day...

If you want to stop, just stop. Don't pick a day, a special date, or do any other symbolic mumbo jumbo. In your mind it can simply no longer be an option, even if you crave it from time to time, it does not exist. Even if someone puts one in your hand, you can hold it, look at it, smell it, and then you can put it down because it's not for you anymore. Once you truly belive this and walk the talk then you're there.

The physiological dependence you think your body has for the nicotine and other crap in them is easily snuffed out by your mind if you will it. Start now... right fucking..... Now!

I have some European Marlboros still.... Oh my gosh, they are out of this world. But smoking is bad... Stop it!

That is a great ime to start quitting. This way you can go thru the fuzzy head and lack of energy at home. If you sleep extra or whatever it won’t matter. Make sure you let your other half know that you may sleep a bit, or lay around a bit more until the worst passes. But that you really want to quit, so please bear with it for a bit.

After the first week, the worst will be over. You will still think about smoking, but just ignore it till it passes.

Good luck.

Lol, I had an accountability thread on here. I did actually quit again and I quit my vape. I am still on lozenges though.

You have routines and habits that involve smoking. Maybe it's that coffee in the morning or after the gym or before. I started replacing a cigar with 4mg tropical Nicolette mints and I bought better coffee and started making lattes. Coffee has the flavour components of tobacco and with a tropical mint or a strong ass patch then it's quite pleasurable to go for a drive, drink coffee listen to music without looking like a poisoned nicotine person. Like have you not noticed how feeble looking cigarettes make people? You know that's not a look, it's actually happening and it happens until all you are is feeble. It looks good until it doesn't and it affects your gym performance.

One thing for me was I stopped kicking myself for it and started using quit now tracker and then I would set it for 1 week, then 2 weeks. So I would let myself have one every time I finished my goal. Before I just let it run on and yeah I got to two months once but then when I went back I was using it every week or four days so it wasn't good to let it run on for me.

There's a book out there that by the time you end it you have quit smoking. It just goes on and on about the effects.

I don't want to look like a man's man with a plaid shirt and overall straps and a mullet, I don't want to look like I've melted like my dad who drinks and smoked too much, I don't want to look Shakey or have dark eyes and look, "unwell" for something I am doing to myself and I got tired of looking like an idiot to be honest. Also if lung cancer doesn't get you it's something else. I have zero lung cancer in my family from smoking but I can sure tell you everything else went wrong. One dude spent twenty years blind and miserable when he could of been traveling the world and building hot rods. He said he doesn't remember what they look like. That's from smoking. There's definitely a pleasurable side but it really does ask for too much for that pleasure.

Also the lozenges don't have a huge down drop in how you feel unlike tobacco products or accumulative stuff like vape pens.

Thanks brotha about to hit the gym. After breakfast it just hit me, fuck I have 4 more meals today lol.

Success is a marathon of consistency worked out one day at a time. How bad do you want it!!!!

I've found there are two types of smokers trying to quit. First one has the attitude of "I should probably quit smoking cuz it's bad for me" and they ultimately quit for a bit and relapse. Now the second person that is "done" with smoking are the ones I've found quit and never look back so mindset is everything.
