My doctor told me if the way I pee changes then tell him, that the test was garbage.
I wouldn’t be willing to accept ed, or incontinance as a side effect when it hasn’t shown to reduce death related to prostate cancer.
That’s the wrong thing tho by if your pee changes. As I said way above when my dad was diagnosed he had NO symptoms. My doctor told me if the way I pee changes then tell him, that the test was garbage.

So does this mean I don’t need to get the ol finger in the poop chute? Wasn’t really looking forward to that day anyway.
Well if I have to I’ve already told the wife I’m getting the female Irish doctor at the clinic to do it lol. That’s likely the best test, lol.
Hey man thanks he’s doing great been a year since he had his prostatectomy done. But his psa levels during initial diagnosis was close to normal, even the finger up the butt test didn’t feel out of norm, the only way they diagnosed was when they performed the biopsy. Didn’t have any “usual” symptoms like others he’s talked to, was a Pretty evasive surgery. They take all surrounding lymph nodes when in there as well as that would b the first place it would have spread too, and luckily that came back clear. Now he has to go for follow ups every 6 months for the first 2 years then after that once a year. But This doesn’t run in my family either but he worked heavy industry in a paper mill exposed to all sorts of chemicals since he was right out of high school (45 years), plus those guys drank like fish back in the 60’s and 70’s parties like animals smoked liked chimneys ya know hippy days lol. Lifestyle is a big factor as well. And in the studies it pretty much proved that the screening doesn’t work.
I’m sorry about your dad. But there are always outliers.
My wife’s sister had no symptoms, then one day goes into the doctor because she got a cold that wouldn’t go away. Cancer thru her whole body. She had no signs, no clue, no chance.
More or less I’m just not going to consume my life worrying about it. No one in my family that I know of got prostate cancer, I may because of the test/higher estrogen useage
Yep that’s true they can’t tell and lots go mid diagnosed only to have it grow and possibly by then it can be too late. The only sure way is a biopsy if they have an inkling something is up.Nope. It's been consigned to the dustbin of tests as well. It turned out most Docs couldn't tell if a prostate was cancerous by palpitation. I think I posted something about it or it was on NM. If it's not here I will post it.

So what do they do now?
Good question. The problem is most prostate cancers are asymptomatic and regardless of what you do you won't have symptoms until the disease has progressed. If the tests we are currently using are useless as well, it leaves us in a conundrum. I think what may happen is more work will be put into having the docs expand their diagnostic abilities with the digital exam to allow them to diagnose with a certain amount of accuracy and then go with an ultrasound. What we have to do is be vigilant in knowing what the symptoms are.
If you do experience symptoms, you may notice some of the following signs:
- A pain or burning sensation during urination
- Difficulty starting urination
- Interrupted or weak flow of urine
- Urinating a lot more frequently than usual, especially at night
- Difficulty emptying the bladder completely
- Pain during ejaculation
- Notice blood in your urine or semen
- Pain in the back, hips, or pelvis that won’t go away
All the symptoms of a bad case of diverticulitis. So I'm fucked because if my colon is inflamed other than the pain during ejaculation or blood, I can get the rest because my bladder will be inflamed as well. Once my diver sides subside I go back to normal, well normal fro the pain I normally have.
He went for his usual psa check and a checkup blood work panel and they noticed his psa was up a tad. Not alarming but the next time it was back down then later test it was back up. Did the finger up there and couldn’t feel anything out of the norm. The urologist was pretty confused as to why the family doctor sent him to see him for a biopsy when he said, that his psa levels were within range. I guess a lot of men live with “this in range” levels when it’s actually growing cancerously. They definitely need better screening that’s for sureWell what made him think he had a problem then? If nothing came back on any tests and he had no symptoms why would they do a biopsy? Just picked him at random?
