I approve/reject people more now than ever before. Most guys know why there are more joining. Regardless, we are getting some good new members and others who are just reading and learning the forums. New members should never be afraid to create a thread. No question is stupid as we all started somewhere and in general - some guys are to the point but people are nice here and will attempt to help you.
That starts at the top with Bull - no bullies, ya we disagree which is fine, racist behaviour is not condoned so post away if you are new. Let the guys who have been here a long time get to know you. Read the rules and don't just check off that you did as there are some items we do not discuss and it can be a quick visit before you are shown the door, but that is not common.
Whatever the reason for the growth, I remember when it was less than 500 members so it is great to see.
Maybe it is me, but I am seeing more chatter, more threads, as I only have time to sign on once a day and there are usually 2-3 pages of new comments / new threads, etc.
