Nootropics knowledge anyone?

Nothing solid but narrowing interest down a little, looking at Theanine, Provigil, Racetams, Noopept and Bacopa Monnieri.
Already been using some of the other stuff and methods for a while now.
@Heraclitus I took something important from a previous post that I've put into effect immediately, basically trying harder :) . Gotta respect the fact that sharpness ain't just gonna come so naturally as I age.

FYI in case this has all come off a bit wrong, I'm not freaking out, not a cry for help or anything like that. It's more that I've become aware of need for some prevention and focus. As I mentioned it's very similar to the bodybuilding journey, use it or lose it and treat deficiencies as needed for example.

I love that the life lessons from gym lifestyle apply to all kinds of other situations.

I want to highlight though that the effects aren't high powered, and a 2021 meta-analysis found inconsistent results. So ymmv

Compared to doing the reps, nothing in my list comes close.

Consistent cognitive training, especially stuff that works on executive function and language skills, can really improve things.

One meta-analysis with older adults and found about 8% improvement in verbal fluency and follow up showed benefits lasting 10 years.

Another study of adults in a 12-week program doing verbal fluency tasks, like coming up with words fast, improved fluency by 15%

A study on language learning showed increased fluency up to 18% after six months.

No nootropic can touch these gains.
Combined, I believe they can be synergistic.
 
When I started looking into nootropics, I found that blends with herbal extracts often felt gentler and more balanced than synthetic stuff. Can anyone tell me your experience with modafinil? And has abyone got a review for the pg anabolics modafinil? I’ve been researching it for some time now and I wanna try it. I asked my doctor about it and he acted like I asked for something hardcore. I have a very busy job and there are days I’m fighting to get through it, but his solution is anti depressants and downers which I have no interest in. I get 7-8 hours of sleep a night so I don’t need to be doped up on anti anxiety medication. I have undiagnosed adhd which he also kinda scoffed at. Easier to peddle the drugs they want to instead of getting to the root cause of the issue. I’m a cook and I work 12s in a heating work environment. Any info would be appreciated. I have tried all the standard herbal options and personally I don’t get any effect from them. Caffeine is also a hit or miss. Usually just makes me shake and then in too wired to focus. Sometimes it does nothing at all. Depending on the source I guess. I’ll end it here. Thanks!

PG's is the real deal. that's why it's so pricey cuz It comes straight from the APO source, can't get any better than that. I tried the Indian generic versions when it was available and it did the job somewhat, but didn't like the orange and skunky pee, which is a normal side effect of this medication. Sleep was kind of an issue as well when I had a specific time to hit the sack and I'd find myself at 11pm twiddling my thumbs...
