I took a new job.. Same proffession, but I took a transfer to another building.. Truthfully, I was influenced for a couple years to do this transfer, but I kept saying no because I new it meant more work for me in learning the new position.. My dumbass thought "even though I know my current job is tearing me a part, at least I don't need to learn a new job".

Wow... I knew I needed a change and was getting burnt out before I took the transfer, but I never new how burnt out I was until I started the new job.

New job in my proffession always means lots of extra unpaid work and lots of training/learning you need to do unpaid at home.. Lots more work right now, but I can't get my head around how much better the new job is and how badly I was burnt out at the job I left after 10 years.

If your cranky, stressed, pissy etc.. try a new job.. I wish someone forced me to transfer about 4 or 5 years ago...

My job was making me sour turning me into an asshole so I had to change it. I took a little less money but it's worth it for the happiness

Life is short.
I decided a while back that if i am not happy in a situation, i am out.
I am on job number 9 since Jan 2020! Lol
Started by walking away from a job of 5 yrs with a great salary, new truck, always got my way, etc. but the games that came with it got too ridiculous. After that, decided i am not giving away my time to be miserable. Fuck it.

But i really like this job. Best place i have worked in a decade or more. 100% stress free. And the 7/7 shift i like. This could be my last one till i retire, or the country completely collapses.

I went thru a period about 6 years ago where I hated my job. I was tired of staff, customers and bored of the job itself.
But I had to get over it, because there was no way I';d make what I do, doing what I have education for elsewhere.

But if like you I had the chance and pay would be close or a tiny bit better, I would have changed it up for sure.

I'm leaving where I'm at tomorrow!

Don't know whats next. I own my company so ive been contracting to these guys out here, but I've been home a total of 1.5 months all year. I'll have to find a new contract, but I might wait until the new year. I got house Reno's and stuff I want to do.

Knowing tomorrow is my last day and then I get to go home is extremely liberating. Huge weight off my shoulders. I got a special Ghurka cigar I've been saving for the drive out of here. As soon as I'm out the gate, I'm lighting it up

The company I work for believes in movement to make you better all around, I've been in like 5 different areas in the last 10 years but I'm hoping to keep this job I'm currently at in planning its pretty stressful free after being a supervisor for 10 years.

Congrats on the new job!

I quit my last job a year ago now. I had my exit strategy planned and it went off better than I could have ever expected.

I've never been in any role longer than 5 years. Things get stagnant and I learn to game the job too well. It's ironic as I can always get away with so much, but the boredom and lack of growth both personally and professionally is what always pushes me over the edge.

Working for myself now, which has it's own share of problems but at least it's something different and challenging.

I left my job a few months ago and am trying to learn code while waiting for apprenticeships to open up. You feel kind of lost/no purpose not going to lie but its definitely better than being somewhere toxic.

Hard to find something solid now days - between good pay, good people, and enjoying the job it seems like you can only have 2/3. Congrats on your future endeavours!

The secret trick if you don't have qualifications is to do construction work. Find something seasonal then when winter hits you go on e.i. you get paid but not a lot, but the government pays for people to do courses to upgrade their skills while on e.i. machinery, trucking, common core..I dont even know the entire list but probably a lot.
Second careers is another program government funded post secondary schooling.
Also depending where you live if your close to quiet rural places with Healthcare shortages the government will pay tuitions for nursing, probably psw, mental health workers, paramedic etc. You just sign contracts saying you will work in the area for x amount of time. Could be 1 or two years. Student loans are a scam it's a business that just feeds off people I'd avoid it all costs.

I paid off a 44k LOC that was beating me down finally but then taxes kicked in and now im starting off from nothing again. Still have some OSAP as well.

I know a lot of those jobs will always be in need and thats something I want for my future career as well hence waiting for electrical apprenticeships. I just dont want to destroy my body in construction or hate my job if I did nursing or something is all.

Ive yet to try a Ghurka! But having a special cigar at a special moment is an amazing experience. I really enjoy the rocky patal vintage 1992 cigar right now. Enjoy that cigar brother 👍🏻

Between work getting in the way of things I really want to do and my wife hounding me for the last couple years to retire, 5 weeks ago I pulled the pin and said fuck it I’m done, I officially retired. Well not quite official until I actually turn 65 but close enough.

It’s a weird feeling, which I’m sure a few guys on here get. When you’re driven to make money your whole life it kinda throws ya off balance a bit. But I’m quickly adjusting 🤣

I don’t plan on retiring, unless by some fluke I have a ton of money.
But my plan to be dispensable at work is already happening.
I am already down to a 30 hour workweek, my wife works 12 hours a week minus paperwork.

Butchershops are not easy to sell, or are sold for cheap, so I figure might as well keep it and make a wage forever. Unless my grandson is crazy enough to want to take over.

On a bad day I go in at 7:15 and leave at 2, on thursday, Friday and Saturday Im out by 12 or 1.

But I have great staff (good guys in the back and a good supervisor out front) that I pay well and have instilled my vision in them.

I don’t think I could completely retire. I enjoy having some place to go and people to chat with.

But this took a decade to put together to get to this point.

I already find myself unmotivated some days at home, and I nap. Not sure if I’ll be able to completely retire.

Let me know how it goes.

I have been contemplating liquidating everything and moving to northern Ontario.

I could work on my own terms but nervous about having everything in cash ( investments) as our dollar is shit and getting worse.

If we still lived in BC I probably wouldn’t have retired. Our home was new, small lot in town, I’d have absolutely nothing to do except garden lol. Doing anything else costs a fortune and its a constant shoulder to shoulder wall of people.

The home we bought here in Nova Scotia was built in 1884, its 4,300 square ft. has one rental and one Airbnb. The Reno’s alone in our living space will take years never mind the general maintenance and cleaning, working out, massive garden up keep, the 10 acres our kid bought that he needs help with clearing, trail building down to the lake plus his house is only a couple years newer than ours, lots of renovating going on there as well.

Some days it feels like there isn’t enough hours in the day and work just gets in the way. There’s no way I’d have retired and just layed around waiting to die.

Well you won't be retired then, lol. You will have lots to do.

My wife for our next house, she wants brand new. We have spent our time renovating old ones and she is tired of that.
So all I will have to do is maybe some stone work and basic landscaping. I'd be done in a year if retired.

But who knows, maybe one day I will hit that magical number, investments might start making more than 5% and I'll be able to afford to retire with the same lifestyle I am used to now.

My staff tell me that I'm not allowed to retire, that they will pull a Weekend at Bernies with me so my wife doesn't sell if I die, lol.

Most have been with me for over 5 years now, and they love working here.
