Ray Braun was an ex pro wrester. He opened up Braun's Concert Cove just outside Buffalo until just before Covid I believe. Often his friends would come and I hung out with Hacksaw Jim Duggan and a few others. They partied just as hard if not harder!! They told me stories of so much coke going on it was incredible. It was like half the guys were doing it in the 80's. Piper was one of the worst. They also mentioned about being on the road 300 days per year and they all used to travel with each other partying all the way and they were actual friends having gotten to know each other so well. Some hated each other but others I heard a strong bond in their voices like some of the guys were true friends. With resect to life shorting hormones are powerful and are proven to cause issues when abused. I was told almost every wrestler did them at some point in the WWF. Some guys just a little some tons.
By the way Hacksaw Jim Duggan is absolutely broken down. His body is just fucked. He had a tough time walking, sitting, standing. I could see him grimace and wince often when moving. He is about 175 to 180lbs. He told me he has lots of health issues and injuries many related to wrestling. He was pretty candid speaking. He didn't make much money at all during this time at WWF at all and lives like a regular person
For sure, but as I mentioned there is just too many factors to even begin to say Hulk's life was shortened by hormones. Everyone whose used is totally and completely different in terms of how hormones have any or how much long term effects..
I also read those guys beat the piss out of their bodies so much performing that many took painkillers and opiods just to keep going...
I find it so dam hard to stay big, strong and lean even in the most ideal environments lol... imagine your pay check depending on being peak big, strong, lean, athletic, yet you live out of a tour bus, spend most of your time driving, beat the piss out of your body a few tiems a week wrelting and some how eat properly and workout?? Those guys are animals for doing what they did.
