So as the title states, what are people’s thoughts on a potential gun/ hand gun ban.

I own a handful of shotguns but have never owned hand guns. I’m actually a little indifferent on hand guns.

So what do people think ?

I live in the country and living in the country a gun can be an essential item.

Those that own a gun and are responsible should be able to continue to own a gun.

I do however think there are valid reasons to ban these automatic weapons and or the ones that can easily be converted to automatic.
No one needs an assault rifle to hunt.

I am a firearm owner and I do not belive that prohibiting any class of firearm will benifit society in any way.

Criminals do not obey the law, and therefore imposing any ban on firearms only serves to increase government control on the law-abiding population. Same with any knife prohibition, or any prohibition for that matter.

Firearms in criminal hands are predominantly smuggled in from USA. They are rarely acquired from other means (theft, purchase, etc), not to say that they aren't. If firearms are not commercially available then they will be manufactured (backyard sheds, 3D Printing, CNC, etc).

I have made comments on this topic elsewhere, on various forums. Show me ONE country with a firearm ban that their law abiding society has benefited from said ban. Where is this gun-free utopia? It does not exist. Take away law abiding firearm owners and all you have are cops and criminals... with the line being blurred between the two at times.

Great video series showing that law has no say in how criminals will acquire the tools for their trade:

The laws are pretty stupid and a huge waste of money. It doesnt fix anything. But on the other side I dont see the need to own an assault rifle with a 30 shot clip. I hunted for a few years and only ever used one shot.

I don't ever see the need to own a hand gun so that doesn't really bother me

But I have just recently gotten into target/clay pigeon shooting and the government can get fucked if they think I'll give up my 12g

We have a right to own arms and the people that choose to live in this world respectfully should not have to suffer because of all the idiots out there

I only have 1 and I will probly never buy another
I like target shooting but I can't hunt, even with live traps and mice I can't kill them, I take them out to the field and let them go it's stupid I know I just can't put them down

But I do agree though that people don't need semi auto or large calibre rifles
Or like .50 hand gun like wtf do you need that for
Jesus the guy showed me one when I was riffle shopping and mother of God the thing gave me chills

I have to disagree on the large caliber. Not sure where you draw the line on 'large' but I am into long range target shooting. I shoot a .308 out to 1km distance, and load my own ammo. If I had a place within a reasonable drive to go farther than 1km I would buy my dream caliber rifle; PGW Timberwolf in .338 Lapua

A friend of mine has a Cadex Tremor (50 BMG) and it is a sight to behold. He drives for hours to get to a suitable place to stretch it out. Hitting a steel plate at real distance with that rifle is an experience unlike anything else. Try a big rifle like this one day and you might just change your mind.

Handguns too. If you enjoy target shooting and you have a dedicated custom build target pistol (like I do) then it's a lot of fun.

I understand the 'want' for semi auto rifles. I have a couple myself and I do enjoy them, but I will agree that I do not think that we have a 'need' for them. I prefer bolt action, even in my .22's .

But that's just it... different people have different wants and needs in every sport. Just look at the product offerings from various Labs and you can draw the same conclusions. Just because I don't want or need EQ and I do not react well to it does not mean labs should stop making it, and just because I love Tren does not mean everyone else does. Yet the options are there to satisfy us all.

I have target shot over the years using hand guns and it can be an enjoyable thing but not for all.

I totally agree that banning guns will not get them out of criminals hands but think there should really be harsher penalties for guys using guns in crimes.

But I also think cops should be able to kneecap people who park illegally in handicap spots.

.308 is a good gun, I looked at a remington 770 .30-06 and that was my original plan but I have no use for it and it would collect dust and never come out to play so I settled on something else and I love it

50 bmg that is a big ass gun I've heard guys get broken collar bones from those
I've never seen one
even the .50 revolver I seen I asked the guy what the hell is that behind the glass, he told me and put it on the counter so I could see it, I asked him how the hell do you hold onto that, he laughed and said 2 hands

Sports like 3 gun are a blast. You transition from pistol to shotgun to some semi automatic platform (mostly AR15).

It takes very skilled and practiced shooters, and it great fun.

Each club comes up with different challenges/events, and it never gets stale.

I agree with the whole “criminals will always find a way” theory to procure firearms.

As for 30 round clips, they are already illegal/prohibited in Canada. The largest capacity magazine to be had for the AR platform is 10 rounds, and this is through a loophole that the mag is to be used for the AR pistol variant.

Large caliber prohibition? On what grounds? Show me an instance where a .50 BMG or similar weapon platform/caliber has been used in any crime... you would be hard pressed to do so. The cost alone makes this more suited to the most serious of sporters or collectors, and it is incredibly impractical to use in any sort of crime... the weight and girth alone limit it to prone firing positions.

Now .338 Lapua... you got me hard just thinking of that beast👅

im a rifle owner. idonno. hand guns are cool but i dont own one. come to think of it from all my friends, hillbillys to gun aficionados, none own hand guns. dont think such a ban would really bother me. i know my friends who are really gay for guns would have a shit fit but i think they secretly enjoy freaking out over such matters. just hope the govt is making evidence based decisions not touchy feely waste of money and time decisions. i just hope you could still go to a range and blast some caps with their pistols.

since others have gone off topic. best hand gun i fired was a old timey long barrel 357magnum. you know the single action type revolver? the kick only twisted my wrist upward a little. hit anything i looked at. couldnt believe how good i could shoot with it.

I love shooting handguns. I have my restricted licence, but never bothered buying any. Looks like i will be very soon before its too late. As far as full auto, large caliber, etc. Why not? Ive shot some awesome guns in Vegas and its a rush. If some nut job wants to kill, they are going to kill. Can of gas and a match, knife, ball bat, car, whatever. Do machine guns make it easier, absolutely. Is this an issue in Canada? No. Are hand guns an issue in Canada? No. The usa has lots mass shootings. They are not commited with hand guns. Also, to i want our fucked up power tripping government having more guns then me?

Give your head a shake... its people with an attitude/knowledge like this that are to blame for everything that gets banned.

Because you don't have a use for something, your ok with it being banned???

How about when something you enjoy doing is up to be strictly regulated or banned and I personally don't have any connection to it so I say "I don't see a need for it.. so it doesn't bother me to see it banned".

your scared of something because you held it and it gave you the chillis? The unknown scares many people, doesn't mean its scary. You want something banned because you aren't comfortable holding it because its your first time? Fuck me... give your head a shake. How many people who have never seen or held a gun would get the chills holding your 12g shot gun? How would you feel if because they felt uncomfortable holding it so they want it banned or are ok with it getting banned just because they haven't touched it before so it makes them uneasy.. Fuck sakes..

Large calibers need to get banned? A hole through flesh is a hole through flesh.. There isn't much difference when dead is dead. There's no such thing as 3/4 dead because it wasn't a large caliber. Give me one acurate argument as to way large calibers should be banned aside from your emotional response to holding something for the first time.

I have very large caliber guns.. what do I need them for? Some have direct purposes such as bear hunting in tight quatres, some I just enjoy to shoot at the range JUST LIKE YOU ENJOY YOUR 12G... why the fuck don't you use a 20 or 28 guage to shoot your clay pigoens? You don't need a 12 to shoot clay... Same argument as your argument?

Did you know a 12 guage is probably the largest caliber around? 12 gauge slugs?? Ever seen a animal shot with 12gauge buckshoot? lol... Nothing else really compares to it.

Don't like hunting because you can't kill something? That's fine, but it gives you no right to have that affect someone who wishes to kill a animal for food. You don't like it, then you decide not to do it yourself.. leave others alone.

whats your issue with semi auto? Does it scare you like holding a large hand gun because it goes 'bang, bang, bang" instead of "bang, tiny pause, bang, tiny pause, bang"?

I'm going to start a petition to ban downhill skiing, skateboarding, moutain biking and all motorcyles.. Why? Because they all each put more people in the morgue or hospital than fire arms.. That and well, I don't skateboard, mountain bike or own a motorcycle so fuck all those who own them, enjoy them and use them responsibly.

See my point????

Tell us how you really feel @animal-inside ! ;)

I'm against it. I don't think it will have any effect on public safety. The truth is our rules for restricted firearms are already extremely stringent and for the most part act as a deterrent for people even obtaining a license unless they have a specific interest, such as target or competitive shooting.

ahhh.... I typed up that reply at the worst moment possible.

I just had a disagreement with a co worker over the same issue on Friday. So I was fired up from that. And while I typed that reply, I was dealing with feeding my miserable 3 year old while my 1 year old threw spagetti everywhere. All while trying to stuff dinner in my mouth to go hunting which I knew I was running late on as is. While I Was out hunting I was slowly realizing what a douche response I gave to a fellow member.

Damon, I sincerly apologize for the words I chose and the tone I used to reply to you. I honestly shouldn't have replied in the mood I was in.

I am leaving my post as I first wrote it though because I feel my argument and justifications are true despite my poorly chosen wording.
