Whatever your fitness goals may be, whether it be bodybuilding or powerlifting, here are some things to think about when preparing to run an anabolic steroid cycle.



  • Your diet has to be on point


If you are not already eating a sufficient amount of calories and a high enough level of protein then you have no business being on anabolic steroids. Generally speaking any anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) will get you physically bigger while on a cycle. However, if you are looking for a crisp lean body while on cycle then you must control your diet.

Enhanced lifters have a constantly elevated rate of protein synthesis and are more efficient at using amino acids to build muscle. As a result of this you should aim for up to 1.5grams of protein per pound of bodyweight while on cycle depending on what substance you are taking. While it varies from substance to substance, steroids will increase the amount of muscle that one breaks down and this furthers the need for a high protein diet.



  • Quality over quantity


When it comes to steroids, a higher dose does not equal a better result. It is more important to find a level that can be sustained without causing dangerous side effects or putting your hormones out of place.

Similarly, due to steroids being illegal to sell in Canada, where you source them is very important. Because the government does not regulate the market as much there are more underground AAS labs, which can sell impure or contaminated steroids. As a result of this you have to be very careful with anabolic steroid sources and doses.



  • Do your homework


Make sure to know the side effects that can arise from the steroid(s) you are using. It is impossible to choose to have no side effects or to only have certain ones. However, this is not a major problem if you take conservative doses and see how your body responds. On a similar note, do not stack a load of AAS that you have never done before. If you have no knowledge of how these compounds affect your body then it is very hard to make judgements about doses and what substances to stack with them. Knowing the half-lives of the compounds you are interested in is important when it comes to side effects. If you are on a compound with a long half life and you suffer negative side effects then you have to wait longer for the compound to leave your system.



  • Post cycle therapy is mandatory
During an initial steroid cycle, users can expect to gain a good 20-35lbs of muscle in a short amount of time.



However, in future cycles it becomes harder to achieve such results due to the body gaining a form of ‘tolerance’ to steroids. Post cycle therapy offers a solution by you coming off steroids for 12 weeks after 12 weeks on. (Other time frames work as well but as a general rule time on cycle should equal time off cycle). During this 12 weeks your body will produce less testosterone at first before it rises to its normal levels. This is beneficial not only because it allows you to make better gains in future cycles but it also minimizes potential side effects.



Clomiphene citrate (clomid) and tamoxifen (nolvadex) can also be employed to raise natural testosterone levels after a cycle.
 
Exactly people always want to take more gear to grow but they won’t even push themselves to eat 7,8,9 or 10 meals a day and force themselves to eat which is what will really make them grow

Thank you for the feedback, the diet is on point has been for many years. just trying to get to a new best and manage the over 55 challenges lol

And not everyone plans to compete

Some just want to slow aging down and look better and feel better
Well your original post says your diet must be on point?... I said nothing about competeing. If you wanna slow down aging and feel better you dont take steroids, you eat better for the most part.
You dont eat garbage and take steroids.. thats gonna make you age quicker.

Edit: now that I reread it, I basically said the same thing as you except protein vs diet. Yet you disagree with me..lol.. I give up

my post was aimed at a target audience of "bodybuilding or powerlifting"

I disagreed with that because those that are not bodybuilders of power lifters may still take AAS
for instance someone with aids may take it to help them grow and combat the muscle wasting they are experiencing


and added that many take AAS for many reasons

Eating better is always a good idea no matter what age you happen to be, but steroids can definitely help you feel much better and help immensely with various aging issues.

You must be young hahaha. You’ll see.
 
Not everyone has that capacity, I had bleeding stomach ulcers causing a portion of my stomach to be removed. I am also SHOCKED at how aggressively ignorant and cheap shot the comments are on a forum such as this. Perhaps zip it if you have nothing but insults to hurl

At the end of the day we’re all just a username on a screen with similar interests. Interests in a field that is all for the most part grey areas, with many different avenues to take. If you can’t handle someone’s opinion on an open forum, you shouldn’t be here.

(these are my general opinions, not a jab at anyone.)

It adds life to your years and really the amount I run is so low its more just for libido lol but I do hit the weights hard though

Man o man some folks think they just jump on board and can call names like calling folks ignorant etc becuse they expect to have respect thrown their way due to boobs, lack of boobs, or feeling of superiority etc. Its a forum, kind of like an apprenticeship. You join, you earn and gain respect, then you slowly fit in, then become somebody...You dont come in and get love from day one, there is a bit of a hazing process required to weed out the weak...We hurl insults to show love at times, and we can fire back, or take it on the chin and decide what to do, but dont whine when it happens, especially if making a statement
ANYWAY, i digress.

This is a great post. Just the last while i was running a deficit, maybe a wee bit too long. I was not growing much, keeping muscle and feeling off and just not that wonderful anabolic feeling since start of a recent cycle.
I added in some much needed calories and holy shit, i took off big time. Kind of like when recomping after a contest. I mean i gained many pounds over the past several weeks with same gear, same cycle and was leaning out, then all stalled and i added my meals back in to just above my maintenance dose for food, and it is night and day. I know this, we all do, but at times when we are in it and in our heads, we forget a few basics, and food is number one, even on cycle you just wont get what you need undereating and many of us do this as a habit. I started back on old diet and boom....Thats why i see this as a great post for old vets like me and newbies, we all need to remember the basics and not get stuck in a routine and habit.

for lean body mass, LBM, not fat and water etc, this is a big area of mistakes folks make often..
