So yesterday had my nephew over and he is in a motorized wheel chair, I have his ramp down so he can get to the pool level, I had a few beer (likely 10ish) and got out of the pool, walked down the ramp to grab another beer and my legs kicked straight out from under me and I fell back and on my right side.

Had to lay there for a minute or so, even drunk was a little worried I screwed something up,. Then I got up slowly, side aching, right forearm hurting pretty good.

Took an Advil and continued on in a bit of pain. Slept on the couch in a comfortable position last night.

So this morning I thought maybe I should go and sit in the ER for 14 hours and make sure nothing was punctured, but then thought, I did this at 5 pm last night, and it is 14 hours later and I am not having any symptoms other than some pretty extreme pain when I cough, so I guess it’s time to heal up.

It’s been 16 hours now, and no shortness of breath or abdominal pain, so I think I’ll live.

Well I did want to cut back on the work around the house to let my shoulders finish healing, so I guess I’ll be forced to now, lol

Oh just wanted to vent, Have a good day guys.

Yup! It's cracked or broken. Sorry man. I know how this feels. I cracked one in 2007 and coughing hurt. Shoveling snow was torcher. 2wks to 70% and 4wks to normal at work 6wks was able to go back to full effort but still stung a bit. Worse part is banging hurts!! She's a ridin' for a while but never heard her complain LOL

It could be dislocated too. If thats the case it usually just takes time and will pop back in on its own
It’s at the back about 1/2 way between the spine and the side of my rib. Feels like the first rib after the floating ones. If I am laying down and push down on my ribs from the front, I can feel the pain in the back on that one.

Well at least I’m on a healing protocol already for my shoulders, so hopefully this heals up quicker.

Guess the guys at work will be doing my lifting this week, lol.

Sorry to hear @Sorbate - a cracked rib usually hurts like hell - not sure if there is anything the docs can do but an xray - which you might want to consider - that and 2 or 3 mg of gg healing blend !

I was going to go and get an x ray, but I know for a fact I’ll be at the ER for 12-16 hours. I figure it has almost been 24 hours. I there was a bleed, I think I’d have some sign of it already.
I don’t even have any bruising on my body, my right forearm is pretty bruised though, tried to save myself with my arm. But on the bright side, my rotor cuff muscles must be stronger and healed, because the fall did nothing to my shoulder, considering I used the arm to try and slow things down. And that is the bad shoulder.

Man I went down fast and hard. I was pretty drunk though, so once I took an advil, I didn’t feel that bad, lol.

I remember 30 years ago when I cracked one of my ribs, like you said the excruciating pain when coughing or clearing your throat.
Bumping against things is almost as bad too. Well be careful with your movements, try not to cough and may you have a speedy recovery young feller. ;)

I cracked a rib in high school.. Even back then when I healed up quick it was still a good month before I could breathe without feeling any pain!

Don’t tell me that, lol. I was hoping to be good in a couple weeks.
The first week was horrible.. it got better after that, but it was an honest month before I could take deep breathes pain free...

I can't recall, but I might have cracked a couple? It was my false rib that cracked.. The ones at the bottom.

Hi @Sorbate, You have had a shoulder issue for a very long time. Now you have a potential broken rid, cracked rib which they can't do anything about but will take time to heal. Just an opinion, but it is time if you haven't to get in line or pay for a MRI and see a orthopaedic doctor for your shoulder. I am sure the rib will heal but I would still get it checked out. At least you know what you are dealing with, even a decent clinic or your doctor can order an x-ray for ribs and let you know.
I know what chronic injuries are like and how annoying they are and I have empathy for you. Can't workout without pain or setting you back or just keep pushing through and create a chronic issue or potential life long issue until you get surgery.
Everyone has made good suggestions but the only way to know, especially on the shoulder, is to have proper imaging. Then you can decide what you want to do. My understanding is you worked your butt off and I would use some of that cash to get properly diagnosed and rehab/physio, etc.
Just my opinion based on the extreme frustration of a life long lifter who can't or has to avoid so many exercises due to the pain or re-aggravating the progress. 100% up to you, but better you know in case something is more serious that you think.
Hope you heal quick as I understand you have a physical job on top of lifting weights. All the best in healing up.

Lol, clinics. We have nothing here. Er or online. And if you are lucky a doctor. I am not lucky, I am one of the 30,000 in this city to not have one.

My shoulder is getting much better. The strength has come back, it is slightly impinged, but I will start physio again with a new guy.

I am pretty much sure I didn’t break a rib. I can sleep on my back and uneffected side with zero pain. I can push down with some force on my ribs without much pain.

I find the pain increases over time as I stand. I was lifting 65lb boxes (close to my chest) carefull this morning. Carried almost 800 lbs across the shop this way.

Much better today than yesterday, but am still extrememly sore.

I cna talk to an online doc, the same as before and ask for an mri and would likely get one, but the 8 months, or 5 if you pay. I asked the one closest to me the time if I paid. They told me people who pay get odd hours and cancellations.

Will not need surgery for my shoulder, nor would I get it unless it was completely torn. I have been told by numerous arm lifters and other guys who got surgery, to try and fix it naturally first because surgery is not even close to 100% effective.

Thanks for the consern. My shoulders just need a break, and they might have got one, but I moved, and before that I went thru 4 different butchers in a year till I got one that would stick. I was double running it at work (which is a lot of overhead movement and hard on shoulders) plus moving a house, and now doing renovations (mainly painting right now) is not helping. This latest injury is forcing me to take a few days off.

I slept 3 times yesterday, got a good 3 hour nap this afternoon. Its been great.
