Free Mason?

Didn’t slow me down at all. I was raised catholic.
The Catholic Church has threatened to excommunicate any Catholics that become Freemasons.
But I don’t know if that still holds today, nor do I personally care. I do not go to church.
I can’t remember if my application asked specifically about my religious background, if it did I would have been truthful about it.
So, Catholicism May discriminate against Freemasonry, but Freemasons do not discriminate against any religion.

My Grandfather and his Brother both were FM. When my Grandfather married my Grandmother, she made him give it up because of her religious background. He always seemed to have good lessons and philosophies on things that he shared with me growing up which I appreciated. I always thought about looking into it myself and may still someday. I am not religious at all so the "must believe in a higher power" rule always made me wonder if I could join or would want to join. I do believe that the Universe or Multiverse itself is a higher power in a way (somewhat like philosophical Pantheism) though so maybe that could count...

why would either or have a issue with the other? Curious where the foundation of this could be

My first guess would normally be that many religious groups (not all) would want all the power over you and your money.

probbaly right... I was curious if catholics think the FM is a religious soceity that worhsips another god perhaps?

I was raised catholic myself, but I consider myself non practising catholic now

I don’t have the proper answer on this, I’m far from an expert but I’d suspect, just like anything in history, if it doesn’t follow the exact agenda of Catholicism than it’s considered a sin. Catholics (from my experience) do not welcome change or anything else doesn’t consider them the leading authority.
I’d like to hear @eazy57 answer on this. Like I said before he is very accomplished Mason, so far his way of explaining the simple things have been way easier to comprehend than allot of others I’ve heard speaking on the same subjects.

My job keeps me away so much I don’t get to spend as much time as I would like to learning the history. I avoid reading google answers on the subject because sometimes I can’t tell if the writer is legit or not.
Although I am a 3rd Degree (Master Mason), my Masonic journey has just begun for me. I would be talking out my ass if I tried to elaborate like Eazy does.
It will take me years to learn what guys like Eazy have already forgot lol.

my grandfather on my dad's side and all his relatives are masons. they are grandmasters of several different lodges. if i lived closer to a lodge i would join today.
the charity work and brotherhood that fm's share is unmatchable.

Actually the masons accept every religion. It was the Catholic church who declared Masons pr more accurately the Knights Templars heretics. There was a papal bill back in the 1300's that outlawed Masons. Mainly because the King of France and the Church owned them a lot of money. Knights templars invented banking and essentially held the money of kingdoms throughout Europe.

That papal bull has never been receded as far as I know.

I know many Catholics who are masons. My wife is catholic and her family accepts it as anyone would.

Times have changed. My mother is a converted Catholic and my godfather was an Orangeman.
