Funny someone posts on this thread...
I finally went into a sleep appena shop today... I would really recommend anyone who hasn't been in one to go to one..
I have been using my machine for a year and a half and my various masks just don't fit perfect, I get dry mouth and most night I take my mask off after 3 or 4 hours.. I went in to see what masks they had.
I wish I went in to oen right away.. It took me about 5 mins of talking to the guy to narrow down which masks might work.. rthen another 10 mins to find a mask that seems to be custom made for my face, cheek bones, nose, head size and sleeping position.. fits so much better.
Anyways the guy told me a few really good tips.
- dry mouth? Make sure your heated hose is properly adjusted.. he said most people do well with a humidity set to 5.. but this requires your hose temp to be 83 degrees! He said otherwise the moisture doesn't stay suspened in the air and therefore doesn't make it to you.. He also said often dry mouth is caused by the pressure too high.. pressure being high will cause you to open your mouth because the pressure has to go somewhere and then your mouth crakes open and dries out.. He said good starting points is humidity at 5, hose temp 83, pressure 5.. and then keep upping the pressure until you have less then x events per hour. I can not recall how many events he said, but its low.. he said often people use too much pressure.
When I got home and checked what I had my hose temp at, it was 60.. No wonder why I get water build up in my hose and I get dry mouth.. I told him my pressure is at 12 and I've gone as high as 14.. He told most people are good with just 9.. but he said the bigger the person, bigger the chest, bigger the neck the more pressure needed.. he said it was reasonable 12 works for me, but he said 14 is likely too high for me..
