A close friend of my gambles often, usually poker in those private settings in Toronto with servers and high rollers. This evening he wanted to go to woodbine casino. For a Sunday night it was packed up stairs at the live tables. We left at 1:15am and it was still packed. Two ethnic races dominated in numbers. How the fuck do all these people afford this shit? Holy fuck. Don’t they have work tomorrow either? Many questions I had. Some obvious dudes whose occupations you could guess from their attire. But other than that average looking people losing hundreds of dollars by the minute. Anyway, I didn’t play, I went along to watch. I had my problems a decade ago and now I don’t even have the money to play even if I wanted to.
I like black jack. The tables were fucked. The dealer gets a 20 or 21 with 6 cards. Dealer get black jack when someone goes in with a thousand dollar bet. I swear I thought it was rigged.
I like roulette as well. Witnessed a man betting thousands on numbers and he won a couple of times only to give it all back plus more and left so cheesed.
Slots are a hit or miss, usually a miss. Another friend of mine lost a thousand bucks on a machine one and switched to the next machine, some old lady come in with a printed voucher worth like 20 bucks and after a couple of spins she got 100K. My friend was so heartbroken. I’ve had old people tell me that if a machine doesn’t pay out after a 20 dollar bill, you should love on to another one. I’ve hit a max of $2800 once on the slots and then lost it all in about 2 hours at another machine.
I have an addictive personality so I stay away from casinos but man I couldn’t understand how so many people can afford this shit. Also, Sunday night? Seriously? Dang.

This post is not to endorse gambling. It is a horrible addiction. People lose down to their underwear and ruin their lives. But to go for fun with a set limit, it could be fun. My friend’s limit was a thousand and after he lost he was going to take out 500 more and I had to convince him not to. It’s hard to leave when it take you over. A lady won 1500 from the “two pairs” section in black jack and people told her to leave, she said “I’ve lost a little more today, I need to make it back”. She lost it all and more in 20 to 30 mins. That ambition to get your shit back always gets you. Do not gamble, that’s my advice. I was upset when we were leaving and my friend said don’t be because he’s not upset. Even a grand is a lot of money when you’re a student and barely able to pay the bills. I would be upset if I were well off as well. No matter how you look at it, it still upsets people. Witnessing and seeing such sadness in people’s eyes actually made me realize why I shouldn’t gamble.
