A close friend of my gambles often, usually poker in those private settings in Toronto with servers and high rollers. This evening he wanted to go to woodbine casino. For a Sunday night it was packed up stairs at the live tables. We left at 1:15am and it was still packed. Two ethnic races dominated in numbers. How the fuck do all these people afford this shit? Holy fuck. Don’t they have work tomorrow either? Many questions I had. Some obvious dudes whose occupations you could guess from their attire. But other than that average looking people losing hundreds of dollars by the minute. Anyway, I didn’t play, I went along to watch. I had my problems a decade ago and now I don’t even have the money to play even if I wanted to.

I like black jack. The tables were fucked. The dealer gets a 20 or 21 with 6 cards. Dealer get black jack when someone goes in with a thousand dollar bet. I swear I thought it was rigged.

I like roulette as well. Witnessed a man betting thousands on numbers and he won a couple of times only to give it all back plus more and left so cheesed.

Slots are a hit or miss, usually a miss. Another friend of mine lost a thousand bucks on a machine one and switched to the next machine, some old lady come in with a printed voucher worth like 20 bucks and after a couple of spins she got 100K. My friend was so heartbroken. I’ve had old people tell me that if a machine doesn’t pay out after a 20 dollar bill, you should love on to another one. I’ve hit a max of $2800 once on the slots and then lost it all in about 2 hours at another machine.

I have an addictive personality so I stay away from casinos but man I couldn’t understand how so many people can afford this shit. Also, Sunday night? Seriously? Dang.

Tell us your favourite games and share stories if you have.

This post is not to endorse gambling. It is a horrible addiction. People lose down to their underwear and ruin their lives. But to go for fun with a set limit, it could be fun. My friend’s limit was a thousand and after he lost he was going to take out 500 more and I had to convince him not to. It’s hard to leave when it take you over. A lady won 1500 from the “two pairs” section in black jack and people told her to leave, she said “I’ve lost a little more today, I need to make it back”. She lost it all and more in 20 to 30 mins. That ambition to get your shit back always gets you. Do not gamble, that’s my advice. I was upset when we were leaving and my friend said don’t be because he’s not upset. Even a grand is a lot of money when you’re a student and barely able to pay the bills. I would be upset if I were well off as well. No matter how you look at it, it still upsets people. Witnessing and seeing such sadness in people’s eyes actually made me realize why I shouldn’t gamble.

Played the slots once in my life. We went to Vegas to see what the attraction was, booked in, went downstairs, dropped a coin in this slot machine, pushed the button and lost the coin. That was the first and last time I gambled. Moneys just way too hard to come by and then to just throw it all into the wind, no thanks I’d sooner buy a penny stock.

We go to the slots once a year or so. The old lady plays the 1c slots. She does 1 line, 1 play every hit lol. 20 bucks lasts her all night
I lose my 100 bucks in 10 mins

This is how the wife and I operate too lol
I’m either going to win quick or loose quick, she likes to slow play it all night.
I’d sooner wander around drinking scotch and look at all the crazy in the Casinos. Not much for gambling myself.

I got a job as a bartender at a race track. My very first taste of betting and omg lost a lot. There cooks in the place would come for a few weeks then move on and new ones would come in. Two Chinese guys arrive one night and watch me lose yet again. They sat me down and told me what to do.

First step take out of your wallet what your prepared to lose
Second lock your wallet and the remainder of your cash in the car
once you lose what you set aside to lose under no circumstances go and get more

doing it this way if you have say $20 or $100 to lose you have fun but are never losing money you need for a bill

final step was to listen to them. these dudes know horses.
they showed me how to cover your bets by betting not just to win. But boxing your bets so if it pays of it really pays off.

one night they tell me tonight is the night. They tell me what to bet and I took my $20 and bet and won large.
$20 was all I could risk that night. If it had of been pay day I could have risked more and made more

but discipline is what they taught me
Now I never gamble and can go to a casino or track and just watch without any urge to bet
as mentioned its an addiction and one I am glad I do now have

I have been to the casino twice.
It been a long time, so the slots were 25 cents.
I bring a roll of quarters, that’s all I spend.

I never cared if I played on the flashy machines, so I would go over to the ones that looked like no one used.
I won a bit over $100 both times.
Once I win I quit.
Both times we had someone else with us that had already blew thru their money, id let them play what I had left of my quarters.

Best part is the money I won would pay for my wifes and I dinner and a couple drinks, so it was like the night was free.

My wife never gambles, not her thing.

The online casinos are evil. Customer I know well, owns a roofing company, one night lost 100,000.
First thing I thought, is damn I’m in the wrong business if he could afford to loose 100,000, lol.
Second thing I thought is how in the fuck can someone do that?

Gambling is horrible.

My stepson decades ago, when he was hard into the drugs, stole 800 out of my wife’s purse, it was her Christmas money. He went to the machines in the bar, thinking he could make it big, lost it all. That was the day I kicked him out, the final straw. I asked him why he didn’t stop, he said he figured he would win it back before he ran out. Was blaming the machines for being crooked.

Peesonally I don’t think gambling should be allowed. But if people want to pay more in taxes, I guess it’s their choice.

The house always wins.

if you understand the math, gambling makes no sense. Take slot machines..they have a random number generator and different hit frequencies but .they all payout 88-92%. What this means is that over 1,000,000 spins you will get closer and closer to the theoretical payout. So over time, you are guaranteed that for every dollar you spend you will get back 88-92 cents. And that math is only for those that play MAX bet. A penny slot, if you cover all the lines can be $2.50 to $5,00 per spin. If you play less than max bet the payout can go down into the 70s.

Better uses for my money thanks.

Exactly what I did at Niagara Falls.

I have not spent fifty bucks gambling in my lifes entirety..Sorry, i know it is a favorite machine thread, i dont even buy lotto tix FFS, i have never felt the desire to gamble and i also am a cheap bastard, i prefer to call it thrifty if ever there was one...I would lose sleep if i lost 20 bucks, i am pathetic....lol...When i open my wallet the fucking queen squints from the light of day....lol

I once put 100$ on 20 on roulette and hit that was pretty cool I think I won like 3500$ or something like that it was a long time ago . I haven’t been in the casino in a long time.

I tried playing poker at the tables but I don’t like gambling a ton of money. So if you go to a no limit table in Edmonton they just all in you everytime until you are out it kind of sucks.

Casino is fun if you got money to burn but honestly if I’m gonna gamble I’m gonna go to the horse tracks and get on e horses

I prefer betting on a game or fight. No its not the same huge payout, unless you go big. but makes it interesting.

Never caught this bug. I might get talked into betting on a game or a fight once in a long while. If @faller @Bagua and I went to the casino it would take longer for us to piss than to blow our allotted gambling funds. Probably much longer cause odds are at least one of us would get lost, one of us would have to piss twice and one of us wouldn't be able to remember what we came in there for.

I’ve been to Woodbine a few times, and the late-night energy is wild. I stick to low‑buy‑in poker since it keeps things fun without burning through cash too fast.
