Bonds

I agree with dont try to time the market. But I dont believe the big whales move their money out of the market into bonds or gics. They collect the dividends and buy up cheap shares.
I mean you can literally watch the volume as they move money from different sectors. You think they're all buying up cheap shares and "buying the dip" - its not true.

Didn't a couple major american banks just shut down. Wonder if that'll effect anything here. I might be wrong though pardon me if im mistaken

Yeah, you're right. Silicon Valley Bank and a couple others like Signature Bank went under recently. They held a lot of long-term bonds that dropped in value when interest rates went up. When people rushed to pull their money out, the banks had to sell those bonds at a loss, which caused the collapse.

It doesn't hit Canada directly, but it shook up the markets. Canadian banks are more regulated, but global events like this can still affect investor confidence. Something to keep an eye on.

Exactly what my investment guy is saying. But I am still scared so I have been putting extra money into a interest bearing account at 4.55%

What account are you gettign 4.55% and how often is interest calculated? My high interest savings account sucks right now.. Looking at options

My post was from 2 years ago when intrest rates were way higher. I’d doubt you’d get 4.55% now.

EFT’s are climbing again, they stalled out last week, but I don’t think Trump is going to do any more crazy shit, so the market shouldn’t drop agsin by any big amount.

The amount it did crash has already rebounded for me.

That is where I put my money now.

But I am likely the guy you’d take the least amount of investment advice from. I pay someone to make me 10% a year and he gets 1 1/2%.

I am not a risk taker, so I’m slow and steady.

I am much better at making it then investing it.

STRK and STRF are very interesting plays for fixed income.

Want some crazy yield that's a little out there on the risk curve check out MSTY.
