It is very easy to get caught up in online debates which is why i have no social media accounts what so ever. People are so quick to attack online because you dont have to face that person. Even if it is a friend or family.
Reading and learning about geopolitics, global conflicts and national politics from all major countries is my favourite past time for the past 10 yrs. i dont watch tv. Dont even have cable. Other than news sites i only come here or youtube. Most youtube i view is for personal education only.
Even when on news sites, i never comment on stories. Same on youtube. I read the comments at times, but never participate.
I still love training in the gym and come to CB as an escape from politics, but there have been lots debates here lately and i have been jumping right in. But i have to say for the most part i have been impressed. Its nothing like a twitter debate or facebook. On those sites when people disagree they attempt to shut the conversation down with name calling and accusations. I am glad that has not been going on here.
But, i would like to see more training based posts!!
I want to hear about deadlift PRs, a crazy bench press or squat.
I should add i havent worked more than maybe five days since January, and have had way too much time on my hands!!! Hahaha
It's difficult. There are obviously some very...frustrating points of view that vary quite surprising. More difficult, I now see that the views on American politics have seeped over our fine frozen border into Canada and that in itself is quite surprising and a quandary because there are entirely too many Americans who really don't give a flying frip if Canada burns to the ground as they showed with their response to the tragic Ft Mcmurray disaster. Many people in Canada should know that the larch and other native trees and plants around Ft. McMurray take up to several DECADES to grow to the height of what a tree in a more southern part of Canada takes 5 years to grow. The humans of today will not live long enough to see Fort McMurray and its surrounding territories anywhere near as they were before they all pass away in 30-40 years. It's THAT bad there. Probably the worst ecological disaster Canada has ever had.
And the Americans all but ignored Australia and the Amazon despite us sending them every firefighter we could set free to help them with their California fire. I remember the ice storms of twenty years ago. A decent time ago when after we had patched ourselves up(It was almost like Quebec hydro was literally knocked to the ground) and our military kicked in to keep up the job here north, we loaded every bucket truck and electrician we could spare up and sent them down the American Eastern Coast to put them back together. Quite simply Canadians generally look from within as we travel to different parts of the world and try to fit in. Americans? They generally trample whatever they can because they just don't have the same 'leave it better than you found it' mentality so many of us have. A whole lot of the world burned down last year with climate change causing so many droughts and a whole lot of places were left to just simply burn because they weren't American and didn't have a "disaster relief package".
Anyways, as I am one of the rascally butt pirates who have caused this thread, I will try to abstain from trying to inject logic into firey threads. I'm slowly becoming aware of some people's personal views and will avoid them.
Many personal comments made by individuals on this forum is the reason for this. Please please please do not take anything to a personal level.
We are a bodybuilding forum and yes getting off topic is fine and can be fun however unless its done in a respectful way it will be stopped.
... I mean when I'd rather just see text versus pictures of a woman who's trussed up like a turkey with a slave ball getting herself fucked in the ass by a dwarf that's hung like a bull? That my friends is a problem this world needs fixing.
I would say I don't take it personally, however, my replies are sometimes inappropriate and personal because with some things I wonder if I have the same eyes and ears and memory as some of the people I reply to. I've kind of self-diagnosed the inappropriate and think it's almost always passionate beliefs in things. When someone tells me I'm wrong and I can do 500 searches and prove I'm not, my passion kicks in and says, "umm wotchoo talking about foo?"
The internet, unfortunately, has allowed a very large contingent of sites that publish partial mistakes or outright mistruths and people have begun to latch on them as truth.
I was here on the internet thirty years ago when there was no worldwide web. No HTTP and I kind of liked it better then because everything that was on the internet was true or if the site was obviously passing bullshit, it was blackholed. The upstream provider literally had everything from that computer bounce back to itself and it just didn't exist on the internet anymore. There was email via SMTP to a unix client. There was news that was passed around via NNTP. There was FTP which allowed you to download files from another computer. There was Gopher used for sending and retrieving documents which was and absolute gold protocol and the predecessor to HTTP. There was no WWW and there were no sites pushing conspiracy theories and REAL fake news. No agendas because if you did, a group of others would discuss you and you'd get yourself removed one way or the other. Just like someone coming into your house and pulling the ethernet cable out of your computer or shutting your wireless down. Provide fake bullshit? Poof gone so NOBODY provided fake bullshit.
I spend WAY too much time looking at people's "WWW" and wishing that there was internet police to shut bullshit down. Against people's rights? No, it really isn't. You are a VISITOR on the internet. People have forgotten that. You are allowed on the internet via a connection to it but your ISP and about twenty upstream ISP's take over ownership of your data. They are the godfathers of the internet and it is to a GIGANTIC detriment of good and right that the godfathers aren't policing things anymore. Don't like how you're behind treated? Then behave. Post truth. Post realism. Assist people versus shoving your ass in their face.
If you want a place where you don't mind yourself potentially getting snowed, then the godfathers make a Twitter that has an entry comment you have to read every time you go there. "This site contains some obvious as well as some well-hidden falsified forms of truth. Enter at your own risk. As far as I'm concerned, saying something 50 times to people on what has become a trusted forum to people who trust you is mentally conditioning people to believe what you're saying. It's a form of mental brainwashing. It's nothing different than a room full of CIA operatives injecting drugs into you, keeping you awake for several days or breaking you via wash boarding.
Most of all, the internet needs a douching. A good anal dousche that shuts bullshit down. There are people KILLING each other, children in their formative years believing outright crazy is the truth and destructive sites being trusted like they were gold bars.
It's CHILLING and DISGUSTING to see the internet now to someone who was here basically right after the military allowed educational places on to Arpanet which turned into Internet. Sadness. I mean when I'd rather just see text versus pictures of a woman who's trussed up like a turkey with a slave ball getting herself fucked in the ass by a dwarf that's hung like a bull? That my friends is a problem this world needs fixing.
your words not mine "my replies are sometimes inappropriate and personal "
that behavior is not welcome or allowed here from any member
so it either ceases to happen the staff here will be forced to react to that.
Our options are limited. We can lock a thread, we can give a person a time out for a short or long period of time or we can revoke the membership of someone.
All of which we do not want to do
so you and others debate away and have fun but omg do not take things to a personal level or be inappropriate or there will be consequences.

No no I mean that I have since I've come here because I haven't caught up with just things are done. Trust me, I don't wish to cause any mayhem here at all. It's a damn poor world when a bunch of men (and some women) have to retreat back to a very specialized site just to comment with mostly like minded people.
Internet police.A very slippery slope.Very scary.just to clarify, are you suggesting that before we had access to alternative media via the internet, that all the news media that was available such as news papers and television news was always truth?
I may not be reading that accurately so just asking.
Also internet police?!? Removing access for those that post information that others dont agree with? Scary shit if you ask me. Not sure that fits most canadians idea of freedom (which i admit does not actually exist)
Anyhow i really hope i am interpreting that completely wrong.

Pity all the little fish that Twitter bans.If Trump gets voted in again,Twitter, and the other PUBLIC platforms will lose their protected status.AYUP, another letter to the editor!
Okay first of all, the world wide web is NOT the internet. It's only part of the internet. It was designed for information gathering, discussion and passing. We who were there when we had a say in how the internet was shaping had NO FUCKING CLUE that the HTTP would turn into a shit hole. The WWW would never have been created if we had known it was going to be filled with some much-twisted dimension that people now just want to believe what seems the best to them instead of getting the COLD HARD INFORMATION that doesn't always make you happy or feel good. Information can be a bitter pill to swallow but in swallowing it, you kind of learn a lesson in that you're getting the TRUTH.
Second information that is untrue, is not information at all. It's a lie.

There you go, just so we're clear on what information is. Information is NOT bald-faced lies DESIGNED to twist people.
- facts provided or learned about something or someone.
"a vital piece of information"
Third, I've not said that any news or newspaper needs censoring. They provide their OWN networks and resources. They get companies to pay them based on the quality of information they provide to the people who decide or don't decide to read/watch their content. If they want to provide bullshit to people and people tune into their bullshit and then that's on them. In the past, those places went out of business because they were "crackpots". People, however, have a chance to see the bullshit and leave it behind. The problem with the web is that it costs nothing for you to make a neo-nazi page. Internet is FULL of free webpage providers. People now have access to lies, SO getting rid of that black guy who took your job at the mill despite you being a meth-head sounds pretty damn good so now it's a SOURCE.
The web, however, is a completely different beast though. It's being bent and twisted and broken and changed so people can push their agendas. The ONLY reason I recommend pause and that some of this information needs to be offloaded somewhere else is because countries, companies, people are grouping their "facts" together, gleaned from sites. Not a dangerous thing if it's a site or two that professes certain lies are truth. But that's not what's happening now. What's happening is people are able to "fact" check their lies with a site that's run from the same organization, just with a different face. Then they log into another place that has people "discussing" the same untruths. Eventually, what is happening is the lies are becoming truths in people's minds and it's becoming EXTREMELY dangerous. I'm going to use Donald Trump as an example. How many times did he tweet that if he was legally impeached that A CIVIL WAR WOULD HAPPEN IN THE UNITED STATES????? Right, that's called attempting to incite a riot or civil unrest. The point of his posts were not to pass information, the point was to scare people into believing the USA would burn to the ground if Trump was impeached which was a HUGE FUCKING LIE. Twitter should have banned him for that and another bunch of things that violate their Terms Of Services because they DO provide a layer of information sifting JUST like Facebook does now. Ahh BUT...Donald Trump earns them money so the cash cow, despite him not having the same set of rules applied to him as you or I, is allowed to keep right on spewing whatever he wants.
I'm not telling anyone that there should be censorship however I will suggest to you that you don't understand what censorship really is..
cen·sorship
/ˈsensərSHip/

There is NO PART of that that says that the truth should be suppressed. I would strip any type of removal of political pages as they're their own saviours or haters. People want to believe that Donald Trump is suggesting a "witch hunt" which really means torturing someone until they give you whatever version of the truth you want. He didn't face a witch hunt, he faced a truth hunt however blowing up the truth is allowed! Oh, how people grew emboldened when Trump was being attacked and abused and hunted despite the fact that every single person who he touches or speaks to, somehow ends up in jail or is currently being prosecuted or just barely gets off on their charges? But we have the "internet!" that says Trump is right and those judges are just democrat stooges despite that not being the truth! There's so many places saying it that it "MUST" be true. Sorry, that's wrong. It wasn't true and didn't happen. Trump used Twitter to put enough pressure on his Senators that they are afraid for their political lives if they go against him.
- 1.
the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.
Look, all I'm saying that nothing needs to be removed AT ALL. It needs to be sifted and moved though. Bullshit needs to be pilled on top of the other bullshit somewhere else so people get a FLAG that warns them that they're possibly reading an utter lie. So an alternative-net that people want to log into and have their minds turned into swiss cheese over lies can exist and pure bullshit can do that. Children and people who are susceptible to some form of coercion should be kept with the facts. They should be given information not made up lies.
Sorry but to me truth is 100% of what should exist. If it takes a huge committee of well-trusted people who are obviously audited to the tits in order to go through sites and remove things that are TWISTING people and have no misunderstandings...there are an INCREDIBLE number of sites who are twisting people. Sometimes weaponizing people. I mean if 20 school children who are shot to death with an AR-15 in the states are saved because some fucking idiot wasn't weaponized by the bullshit he sees on the web? Sorry I'd take TOTAL ***BLIND*** censorship over that ANY DAY. Shut the whole damn web down if we can save those children. Would you though or would you say your HTTP is more important?
To be clear, I'm not saying the entire world wide web(which is not the internet...just part) needs to be completely cleared out, I'm saying that dangerously unstable and destructive places need to be removed. I'm a free-minded person however there are no parents in this room. There's nobody putting their foot down and stopping shit and people are now taking absolute GARBAGE as THE LAW because it's backed up by people who used the first source as their source to publish themselves as "another" source. It's like CNN taking something published on MSN and using it as part of their news which is INCREDIBLY dangerous and irresponsible.
Lastly, just so we're clear, it's a pretty rare newspaper that uses three places that circle jerk each other for their "facts" for their article. Most of them, unlike the web news sources are pretty close to being right.
