Has anybody experienced benefits from Glucosamine/Chondroitin?

I’m putting together a supplement order and considered chondroitin as an add on for sore joints. I currently use Voltarin for muscle, tendon and ligament pain.

The science behind its effectiveness is ambiguous— both good and bad... so I’m looking for opinions.

Perhaps another affordable option that works?

Yes I have

Need to take 1500mg per day (most people take too little)

Need to take consistently

Takes a minimum of 4 months to see benefit

I have been on it for more than 20 years. If I run out and don’t buy any… Within 48 knees start to get stiff and crack in the morning

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

I had major cartilage wear and tear 12 years ago and couldn’t even move until a surgeon recommended it and it took exactly 2 months for the initial effects and up to 6 months to get back to normal.

You need to use it generously, and do all sorts of joint exercises and always be consistent.

As mentioned, skipping your routine for a couple of days will make you feel it and then you become a solid believer as it was the case for me 😆

I fail at consistency. The fact you gotta take it for so long so consistently, and I fail miserably at being consistent.
I got a flavored liquid version and I used to add it to my preworkout lol. That worked best...

My mother has severe arthritis and she swears by it. Also made a big difference for our arthritic dog.

@Oldguyjiujitsu Is that 1500mg of chondroitin alone or with glucosamine?

It did nothing for me. My joints wore out at the rate they would have without it and I wound up with two knee replacements.
I'm not saying it won't work for you and you should give it a go. Ambiguity and supplements go hand in hand.

To me it’s like face cream for woman, it’s more preventative maintenance.
Like a woman you wait till your are wrinkly to use a skin care product it might be too late.

Instead of voltaren, use RubA535 Arcania Natural. It works as good and no long term side effects. I cannot find one study showing it’s harmful.
Voltarin has a host of long term effects.

I’ve been taking glucosamine for over 20 years, I have no joint issues and have lifted heavy stuff for a living all my life.

Such as?

It keeps my mother going, without it her knees ache. I use it but for preventative like Sorbate said. Has it done anything remarkable - nope but the combo of MSM, Glucosamine and chondroiten helps to some degree. You can get the three in a combo. I too use voltaren gel for bad days but not as much.

Thanks, this is good advice... didn’t research voltarin... just had some leftover prescription cream.

What dose of glucosamine do you use?

Make sure you research the topical and not the oral or ophthalmic. You have to research diclofenac. The oral is probably the most dangerous NSAID out there and should have been yanked from the market when they pulled Vioxx. Brutal for CV events.
