sleeping on shoulder issues/ pillows?

I brought this up with my doctor one time and he said "we could amputate the arm" it was a joke of course but I got what he was saying, the arm is there and there's not much we can do about it. What I did was I bought a side sleeper mattress, it's firm in the middle to support my midsection but softer at the top and bottoms to allow my upper body to have more cushion, the bottom is soft so you can rotate the mattress. It actually helps with side sleeping.

If you're a side sleeper because of breathing issues get a sleep study and a CPAP, with my CPAP I can and often do sleep on my back now.

I have this same problem so I found that back sleeping is the best way to fix it. I found that I can comfortably get to sleep on my back only if I use a travel neck pillow to keep my head secure in a comfortable position, and I put the travel pillow on top of a thinner regular pillow that sits lower just at my shoulders.

I had to try a few different shapes and styles with memory foam to find some that I really like and I switch between them to change firmness, neck support, and head position depending on how I'm feeling.

This is the idea, you just need to find one that you like. I can't sleep without one now.

I also use a CPAP and this makes sleeping with that much easier too.

This is worth a shot before a 3k matttesss... I agree, the Cpap works better when your on your back, so there's that too.

Side sleeper here as well and after spending 4k on a therapeutic pillow top soft mattress, I'd say It's worth it. Mind ya I sleep with pillows tucked up in between my legs, one on my butt and one in between my armpit to keep my arm at shoulder level so it doesn't sting. I flip sideways like a pancake every two hours, but sleep in general It's good, get deep sleep enough to keepme coherent during the day!☺️

I just learned to sleep on my back.
I envy you. This morning I rolled onto my back to let my cat kneed me. She was purring away and after 3mins I felt I had to take a full inhale and couldn't inhale more than a wisp. Complete weezing closure of the respiratory tract. Felt a bit dizzy. Turned on my side and coughed up a wack of fluid and the weezing went away. If not it's puffer time. Smoking sucks with a cold.

Stop smoking if you are choking. Damn man that is a sign to quit.
I have a sister in law, got breast cancer, stopped smoking for like 2 years, once the cancer was gone, she started smoking again. I'm sorry but that would keep me form smoking again.

I pretty much quit at first except weekends because I noticed I was breathing heavy to carry in the meat boxes and realized that wasn't good.
But now zero smoking just the little mints which I reduce by one mint every week. This way when I finally stop the withdrawal will be minor.

Bought some new pillows to try..

I noticed when I lay down on my wife's side of the bed, its MUCH more comfortable.. she's got 2 thick super soft pillows... I got one flat thinish hard pillow...

If you're coughing or find it hard to breathe sleeping on your back try to incline yourself a bit, that'll help drain fluid down and help open your airway

My aunt has been smoking for likely all her life. She got throat cancer from smoking and went through hell cleaning that up, and she still smokes a pack a day at least with no shits given.

She drinks coffee and red wine, barely eats or drinks any water, chain smokes menthols, and is still alive to all of our complete astonishment.

I think the alcohol and chemicals in the cigs are preserving her like a mummy and she would probsbly die if she quit.

my grandfather had a theory that if he quit smoking he would get lung cancer and die.. His theory came from watching his buddies quit smoking in their 50's/60's and getting lung cancer shortly afterwards and dying. He believed the cig smoke made it difficult for the cancer cells to grow/form.

Guy smoked cig's from 12 years old and died at 87 from lung cancer. Smoked up until a few days before his death.. He often smoked 1-2 packs a day..

My Dadi is 90 and started smoking when he was 11. We are more concerned if he doesn’t have a cigarette hanging off his mouth. His doctor did say that it would be harder on his body if he quits.
