My wife told me about a month ago I snore like crazy and I often stop breahting and snort etc.. So got a dr refferal and got the ring to test for it. I did the test and sent the ring back, but its been 2 weeks waiting for confirmation and the next steps... I dont need confirmation. I know I have sleep appean

Wife got me a fit bit to track my O2 levels roughly and all the other stuff.. I got an app called "shut eye" that listens to you sleep, records when you snore, gives you an idea of all kinds of other sleep info. I got sleep appnea hard based on the fitbit and the app lol..

I sleep with my mouth closed 99% of the time.. fall asleep breathing through my nose and wake up breahting through my nose.

So I ordered a mouth peice.. I wore it last night for the first time.. it pulls your lower jaw out a bit.. It made no dam difference.. but I think its because its for ppl who sleep with their mouth open maybe?? Even with the mouth peice, I slept all night with my mouth completely closed around it.

I thought it was a decent brand, but its chinese shit and you can tell when you email the company they are not english speaking lol..

So I was on here and read a thread about airwaav mouth pecies. Do they work for ppl who sleep with their mouth closed?
 
You're a big dude. You don't want to fuck around with sleep apnea.

The mouth guards and other such devices may assist some folks with mild sleep apnea issues. Probably not you.

Get the machine. It's a life changer even though it takes a bit to get used to.

Best thing I ever did was get tested, everything covered as my company has an excellent medical plan. 4-5 hours sleep with the machine and I just bought the nose cover (not the full Darth Vader mask) and is better than 8 hours before when no one in the house would want to be near me. I do have two dogs I can hear snoring upstairs if they decide to sleep against the doors when I am downstairs - my Bouvier De Flanders is not overweight but he farts and snores like a band playing music after a good workout training protection or hide and go seek. No machine for him though. The machine tells me how many hours of sleep I had for 1, 3 and a week averaged out. Portable - you can buy direct and still get help setting it up and save 50% on the machine and parts that need replacement.

For sure..

The mouth peice would be something to tide me over until I get the machine. And if I Can't use the machine for example camping in the bush.

I'm not sure what's the deal, but my doctor appointment for sleep appnea was Dec 7th.. I did the ring test Dec 22nd.. So almost 3 weeks waiting to hear back from the sleep appnea place. I'll send another email, but it just seems like a long process

Ya I'll need some info on finding the cheapest way to get the best machine.. I read on here many guys buying direct.. But buy direct from who? Got links to machines?

I have a resmed airsense 11 and just got my dreamstation replaced.
Mine runs at max most times, so the humidifier rums out of water in about 6 hrs, but ither than that both good machines.
Sleep stores will burn you for $2500-$2800 for most machines.

I went to Vitalaire (first consult is free) / testing is not and if you need one - they had a list of machines and different options and told me a price. Went to the the website and then went back and asked why they mark them up 50%. You can buy direct from almost any manufacturer. They stated the service, monitoring or if you need adjustments which anyone can do with the manual or just tinkering.
I would not assume, albeit sure you have it, but pay for the testing and then if you want it do it the cheapest - but direct / I wouldn't buy a used one. The most annoying part of the whole procedure is regular cleaning. Especially if you have a cold/virus. They recommend every 3 days - I do it once a week and replace the filter when the machine beeps and tells me.
The mark up is a rip off and I would ask them if you buy everything direct - can you still pay for consults if needed.

Keep pushing (nicely of course) but you have to advocate for yourself.

You are not their priority....and the docs are just flawed people like the rest of us. Make yourself a priority for you.

It's imperative that you are seen and not lost in the shuffle. Just don't be a cunt lol!

Sometime you have to toe that line though.
 
I went and did overnight sleep test (again. Wife insisted LoL)... They diagnosed me with "mild" sleep apnea. I'm going to shop to get machine etc. They said gov't pays for part of it and work benefit the rest. They said I must purchase at registered shop(?).

Thanks guys... I was intending on getting the machine from the begining, but I had no idea where to start or where to gety them cheap
 
So I have mild sleep appena.. on average 6 "events" per hour. Average heart rate 65, but HR went as high as 98.. 91 was my average O2 levels, but went as low as 86

So I go to Dr tomorrow to get him to sign off on the prescription..

Then the sleep clinic wants me to go in, get fitted for a mask, pay 300$ to rent a machine for 3 months to see if I like it.. And if I do, I buy a machine.. They told me their machines connect to internet, so they would adjust and monitor it for me from their clinic without me needing to do anything.

She threw a number out there of $2,000 for a machine.

I guess I will shop around..

What are you guys using and how do you like it?

I'm looking at this model right now, so many parts and peice I see on the screen.. What do I actually need to buy? Or can I buy the "complete system" for 1095$ at the bottom of the page?

Go on Kijiji and find a used machine. You will get one for about $200-$300. You will need to travel into a bigger city though. I had to go to Toronto. I made a trip out of it.

Anyhow a lot of people sell these machines when their parents die and they have very few hours on them. I bought mine almost 2 years ago, resmed 10 with humidifier and it works great. I have taken it with me everywhere, it has now gone to 4 different countries, lol.

Stupidly easy to set up. What I did was keep increasing the air pressure until the mask would leak on me at night then down just a hair so it didn’t leak (that is after you have the mask adjusted properly, but that is a no brainer)

I use the resmed 30i nasal pillow, best mask ever, costs $125 on Amazon. I sleep with my mouth closed all night as well. I think maybe once or twice I woke up with the air blowing thru my mouth, lol. The mask only lasts for about a year, then it gets too floppy and doesn’t fit right.

I don’t have sleep apnea, but snore bad, but the mouth guards didn’t work for me, when I sleep my jaw relaxes and falls inwards closing my throat. I usually sleep on my back, which likely doesn’t help.

I got the ring from my wife for christmas and my resting heart rate doesn’t increase and averages 58 bpm while sleeping my O2 is 96. With or without the mask on, but my O2 does fluctuate more often without the mask.

If you get a newer machine some of them automatically adjust the pressure.

Get a machine, best thing I ever did.

And if you sleep without it for a couple days in the bush, don’t worry you’ll be fine. There is the odd night I just cannot sleep with the mask on, so I go to the basement pull out the hide a bed couch and snore my ass off. I find I only get tired if I do this a few nights in a row.

Your wife will have to get used to the sound of the machine though. Kinda sounds like Darth Vader but quieter.

Oh and whatever machine you buy, make sure is has the humidifier.

Same as this gentleman. I bought mine off marketplace. Quickest and cheapest way. Make sure it has auto set. Res med 10 or above. Was super easy to set up. Tons of YouTube videos to help guide you. Got mine and first night I could tell a huge difference already. Worth the money and effort. Only paid 400 off marketplace. Would even buy a second one if this one craps out or I need a spare.
My sleep apnea was/is very bad. I have way more energy throughout the day. If you do end up getting one I can send you the video that taught me how to set mine up.

Lots of people get the resmed nasal mask or nasal pillows. Those seem to be the most recommended ones. Mine came with a brand new Philips nasal mask that worked perfect.

But bottom line is… if you know you have sleep apnea then get the machine. Sooner the better as you’re basically slowly killing yourself by depriving oxygen from your brain causing increase blood pressure in your body. …Or lose a lot of weight.

I have the Resmed Airsense 11 and I sleep great with it. It’s the only machine I’ve used though so I don’t have anything to compare it against. Luckily my benefits cover the entire thing so I opted for the fully kitted package that came with enough supplies for a lifetime.

I’ve never had to make an adjustment with mine since getting my prescription about 2 years ago. That being said, the whole internet capability for monitoring/adjusting wouldn’t be a big selling point for me.

Which province do you live in? If I recall correctly, in Ontario, OHIP covers up to $600. I’m not sure if other province offer the same coverage. I’m guessing the clinic/CPAP store would have informed you if they did.
 
Just got paid to get the test from a private clinic 500$

I have all the symptoms but was lazy to follow up even after my appendicitis surgery my dr told me during recovery I stopped breathing multiple times

Anyone with any symptoms should take the time to test

thaank you.. I will look at used.. I would only buy used if its pretty much new and is the latest technology.. I saw some older machines for sale on market place before.. didn't look like something I woudl buy lol

I also have to look at my benefits though.. If I am partially covered for cpap then it would have to be new.. I doubt I have full coverage, but I'll have to look at my coverage before even looking at uysed.
