Get as many tickets in the trades you can. Then you will alwAmy’s be working and can choose.
As a plumber gasfitter myself its a great trade and you will have no problem finding work anywhere. But if you like a bit of electrical I would get into hvac and refrigeration instead. Ticketed guys are 48hr+ in alberta and in very high demand. Most good guys are 60-65hr. Construction plumbing is clean work but honestly quite boring to me. Service is way higher demand because you need to actually know how to fix stuff and it can be very shitty. Pun intended. Most people think plumbers play in shit everyday but its not the case. So most plumbers dont want to do service.
Yea i couldnt believe how much they make, iwas always told i make good moneyas a carpenter... but i seen adds that pay higher for 1 year of plumbing/gasfitting experience then fullyticketed carpenters... like as a carownter in b.c., unless u own a business of ur own is 25-40$h... typically havent met anyone who makes more then 70k unless theydo overtime. Where as i found lots of ads for 1year+ experienced gasfitters to start 60-90k a year plus full benefits and a company car and cellphone. Like i had good benefits and was makin 35$ and i was told iwas overpayed lol. I got my licence taken away a lil while back and i haveto redo the driving test to prove im still capable if driving and as soon as i pass that i wanna jump intodoing that sort of stuff.... ive done electrical, a lil bit.. pulling wire, low voltage, installing plugs, lights, ect. But ive never assembled a fuse box, but besides the box it seems fairly simple. I just find its overstocked with guys, growing up everyonewas told to be an electrician, ive seen ads for apprentices that start at 18$ so idk. I keep being told to move to alberta. Kinda seems like its where everyone is going now. I have a girl who i been talkin to daily whose tryin to get me up there, sent me a picture iftickets she wantto buy to fly me up there to stay with her, took a picture of her standup doubke freezer with half a cow and pig in there all diced up, sends me her lunch n dinner pics everyday, jobsearches for me.. whatever she can to encourage me ti go up there
Thoose figures seem a bit high for starting out. But who knows. I started years ago so wages could be higher now. Problem with carpentry is is not a mandatory red seal. So anyone can do it, where as electrical or gas, you have to be ticketed to do it. Hvac and gasfitting is all low voltage for the most part. I work on furnaces but all the diagnosing is past the transformer on 24v side and fairly simple circuits. Im no electrical genuis and I can do it..lol. I just never liked electrical cause you can see it and it can kill you..lol. I thought about electrical but plumbing was just so easy. Its like glueing lego together. Lmao. Plus I couldn't do electrical cause the old saying goes.
What kind of social work do you do?
Work with at risk youth, mainly... i work with Foster kids, i did this also when i was younger but i basically jist aged out myself so it was too much, was still getting over what i had ti go through. So then i worked in alternate schools and independant living programs, now back working with foster kids
My first son finally got out of the lame 9-5 he had and is going for a trade. Just registered at Fanshawe for next year for their "introduction to the trades now fucking figure out which one you want to do because we want to fill all those open slots for trades that kids don't want to work anymore".
Yeah, in the last 27 years I have noticed that the work ethic isn’t quite the same, but to be fair its not the kids fault, but the parents and school that raises them.
I did that for quite a while—mainly so-called behavioural kids. Prefer complex special needs. Now I am a silent partner in a retro arcade with over 80 games.
Thing is only a certian amount of us are highly motivated. Thru the years my wife has gotten perturbed by the work ethic of some of our staff, but I always tell her that if they worked like us, they would own their own business and not work for us. So we fix them up the best we can.
I dont believe work ethic can be taught...you have it or you dont. Its very hard to find decent young guys ( under 25) I find the best way is numbers.. just keep hiring them and get rid of the useless ones.
How much do HVAC guys get? Don't you have to be on the roof all day?
Not sure across the country but I know HVAC guys make less than electricians and fitters but they get tons of overtime and always get trucks.
Depends. Sometimes on roofs, sometimes inside. I know my sisters husband makes 6 figures, he is in commercial hvac. My brother didn't like to work on dirty equipement and did installs in large roof top units (like the ones you can walk in the place on teh top of malls, Costco, ect. And 15 years ago was making like 75,000. Now this is Alberta.
