Tik-Tok - I would STRONGLY advise that you get the hell off it if you're on it.

I don't think Russia is a communist country anymore though. However, the hate is because of the atrocities they have perpetuated during the USSR days, and the rivalry they had with the US. They are coined as the antihero of the western world.

There are countries that portray communist ideals and socialist policies that are more successful like Norway and Switzerland.
Isn't it still socialist in nature?

Isn't it still socialist in nature?
I don't know what Socialist in nature means. They have private business, private property ownership, private banks, and state-owned banks (I don't know the ratio); they have medicare and private insurance- a two-tier system same as some other European States; Germany comes to mind. Means of control of production are mixed. Many of the more prominent industries are state-owned such as these four industries: energy (oil, gas, and electricity), banks, defence industries, and transportation. The little guys are left alone.
Compare that to the core essentials of Communism-
  • total abolition of private property
  • Heavy progressive income tax on everyone
  • Elimination of rights of inheritance
  • Property rights confiscation
  • State-centralized banking system
  • Government ownership of transportation and communication vehicles
  • Government ownership of agricultural means and factories
  • Equal liability on all to work
  • Combining agriculture with manufacturing industries; eventual redistribution of population around the country so as to equalize it
  • Free education for children in public schools; combine education with industrial production
These might be good reads but long and boring.
Sorry for the interruption. I will go back to my cave now.

Yeah, i guess i am meaning USSR was united soviet socialist republic, similar to communism, but more like hutterites in nature from my brief and non in depth understanding....Not as strict, like Romania and other countries where you stand in line for fuel, food, toilet paper etc...From my tiny understanding that is more communist style. But again, i am just asking, not telling as i am no expert, just speak to folks from these areas and trying to learn more..

They all claim that they are on their way to achieve true communism, this is just part of the process.

It is just like religion, they have different versions and plans on getting that state of completeness.

We, in the west, just construe communism whenever there are socialist programs or something is provided to the public equally from the state even if non communist countries do it too.

Take health care for example, it is not free per se since it is from our taxes, but since almost everyone have access to it in Canada without paying; non Canadians especially Americans find that procedure communist like.

Thanks man...I have been interested in this topic as of late....

USSR was communist through and through. Socialism had a split of sorts or a schism way back in the 1840s when Proudhon split with the likes of Marx and Engels. Way too complicated for my aging brain to write a tome, but we are left with democratic socialism, such as Sweden, Denmark, et al. with strong roots in democratic socialism, but it can change depending on who is voted into power.
Proudhon was kind of interesting. Perhaps the first Anarchist.

Thanks bro

Thank-you brother Bagua, good info and will get me into more reading and learning. I find it an interesting concept and just overll good for awareness and learning...
I guess East Berlin would have been also strong communism through and through, Romania and the likes.
Never had to buy a tractor for the farm, nor fuel, nor anything, but had to give all the produced goods back to government and await your daily allotment or weekly for goods and supplies etc. My friend from Romania has been explaining a bit from the old days and he is in his 70's and has a lot to tell from his perspective.

Lots to learn and great historical lessons and understanding of how some things came to be on this path so far...

A good start if you are into some so-so reading is Eric Hobsbawm Age of Revolution: 1789- 1848. From the Asian perspective, The Birth of Communist China by C.P. Fitzgerald is an excellent book, but if I recall correctly, it did seem to lean toward some of Mao's propaganda.
Another good read is A Boy Named Charlie Brown, by Charles Shultz. I had to get that one in.

Damn, lots of paper to immerse one's self on.

Charles Schultz, author, philosopher and creator of the red Baron + great pumpkin, whats not to like.... When you can have both in one picture..GOLD!!!

every app where you take or post pictures needs access to your camera, microphone and photos. How else would you make the app work?
Not sure why you trust a Chinese company less than an American one. At one point IG had in their terms that they could go into your pics and use/sell them for advertising. It didn't last long as people were obviously upset.

Not saying apps like this aren't cancer, but what you're "exposing" here isn't news.
There's a REASON why I brought it up.

All sorts of other apps do the same thing "We reserve the right to take it all."

The point with Tik-Tok and yes, some others is that it runs memory resident no matter what. Oh, you exit it, and MOST people think you've closed it, but you haven't. The insidious part I bring up is that you can't even go to the apps area and shut down the memory resident part of the app. It doesn't give you an option to close or force the app to stop. The options are just greyed out so the app runs no matter what you say or do, AND most people leave the full load of settings alone that allow it to do whatever on their phone.

Worst of all, most people just accept that they can't shut the app down, they don't ensure the privacy settings are fixed, and the damn thing steals from you 24 hours a day because it's using battery power as it stays in memory, running.

Most people watch their silly/stupid and don't realize all this. That's why I brought it up.

Isn’t communism when a small group rules the masses and controls most aspects of their lives?
More of a "Small Portion Forcibly Rules the Masses and the Masses allow themselves to be controlled and paid a portion of the whole according to their needs etc." Part of communism is not only the many accepting the few as their leaders, but in perfect communism, the few actually believe their own shit. A section of leaders believes the few can lead the many to prosperity.

We're a socialistic country through, which to some of you would be your version of communism. The few lead the many, and a good number of them actually believe they are doing right. The problem is when you have someone who becomes self-serving, which at whatever level of government becomes cancer upon the system.

I believe socialism can work, but you need your Fidel Castro type of person who leads and believes in a vision without allowing the system to corrupt him, where he makes himself a god and everyone else just does what he tells them to do no matter how corrupt it is. An example is China. A completely broken system of communism. When you have gangs of people with clubs to enforce your "communism", it's already lost.

I do not see where we are a socialist country? Most, if not all sectors are open to private ownership? The simple fact that I can win a lottery prize and keep the money makes it more apparent that I can be richer than my neighbor.

I believe you mean to say authoritarian or oligarchy rather than communism.

Does ANYBODY know what we really are? Giant chunks of this country are what would be considered socialism. A TON of government-run things.

Government controls every aspect of everything.
You almost can’t build a deck without permission. Unless its under 2 feet and not attached to your home.
Need permits to do renovations where I live, and basic renovations. None of us get them though.
every year business gets more regulations, in every aspect.
And every year they increase “for our safety”. Which it likely does help with our safety, but once we can’t do anything with risk, life will be very boring.

You pay tax after a year on the money, so you don’t keep it all, lol.

Just being sarcastic btw.

And they support people with less money by taxing and not supporting the ones with more money.

Hey man, I'll make sure to spend every dime first, you know, beat them at their own game 😉

They want you to live forever, they can't tax their rich friends. We, the working class, on the other hand, are the golden goose that produce more tax payers.
