Acetaminophen, Caffeine and Codeine will no longer be available without a doctors script. I was wandering what the hell was going on, every pharmacy is out of it and when I ask them whats up I'd get a shrug. Googled last night and the Government is moving to ban it as an over the counter. I guess no one wants to stock the shelves with something they might have to pull. This sucks :(

So they're banning Tylenol? LMAO No they aren't.

That combination is found in Tylenol 3's which is already by prescription.

It's well known that caffeine and codeine don't go well together in large amounts.

My google search brought up nothing.

Caffeine really? I don’t drink coffee so I take tabs. That’s not ok with me.

I just read the story and I didn’t see any mention of caffeine....

It’s referring to the otc meds ac&c being available. No application to the individual meds (well codeine yes, but that’s already the case). Only low dose codeine was available as long as it also contained caffeine and acetaminophen.

It looks like this article was written a year ago. Has there been progress made?

I didn’t know you could get ac&c otc. I assumed all codeine based products were script only. Huh..... learn some new every day.

I’m assuming there has been progress because no one is stocking it. Maybe the thinking is why put it on the shelf only to have to pull it in a week.

I walked into Shoppers about 2 weeks ago and asked the pharmacy people for Tylenol 1’s which has all the above and they looked at me, figured I wasn’t a druggie and gave me a 50 pill bottle for $20.

When my neck nerve was bad, I cold water extracted the codeine so I could take 32 mg at a time. Unfortunately you still got the caffeine so no way you slept, but I was free from nerve pain for a bit, lol.

Shit. That's my go to pain killer. I guess I'm going shopping tonight to stalk up as much as possible.

Last time I bought a bottle, I asked for two and was told they can only sell one at a time

This pisses me off, make marijuana legal and take Tylenol off the shelf......

Way to clean up the opiod crisis......as much sense as taking guns away from legal owners

No kidding eh!!

They’re sooooo concerned about public safety and smoking cigarettes is still legal despite it killing thousands every day.

I will keep my eyes open for any updates. I would love to see acetaminophen available only behind the counter due to the many liver injuries that happen by people not being aware that even a rather low dose can be dangerous because it is ubiquitous in so many cough and cold remedies. People take way more than they are aware.
The FDA has been pressuring the manufacturers to only have 325 mg's available for the last five years and lower the safety threshold of acetaminophen from 4000 mg to 3000 mg due to the volume of liver injuries. I do believe the manufacturers have complied.

Guess it’s official, pharmacist just told me AC&C has been discontinued :cautious:

Some news for ya fwiw. First off AC and C is the common use name for Aspirin (not acetaminophen), codeine and caffeine. With tylenol instead of ASA the common use name is Tylenol 1 or T1 as Sorbate mentioned.

I met with someone in the industry (the college of pharmacists) today and while we were talking I remembered this thread so I asked him about the status of T1's as it pertains to this thread. His answer was that there is no expected change in the status quo in any of our provinces anytime soon. I asked about the situation in your home province specifically and he figured that this was possibly just a position being taken by the management of certain specific retailers which could be happening for many reasons, thinking of the similarities to the troubles with purchasing syringes in some places. Also there was a shortage of AC and C around the time you first posted but I'm not sure if that had any effect on the acetaminophen products.

Unfortunately I forgot about this last post of yours so I forgot to ask specifically about if AC and C has actually been discontinued but it doesn't make sense to me that it would if T1's were not.

Everything I said here is opinion based meaning I never fact checked but it would be a very big surprise to me that this man was wrong as he is in a position to know.

Cheers

I’m going to ask around again, maybe try some places I haven’t been too. So T-1 have codeine?

Try Walmart? Yes, ask for "tylenol with codeine" read the label before you pay, should be Acetaminophen 300mg with 15mg Caffeine and 8mg Codeine Phosphate.

T3's are the same but with 30 mg Codeine.

PS to all - Please remember that Codeine is an opioid, just small steps away from other opioids like fentanyl, heroin and oxycodone. Addiction often starts with the more easily available products, As Bags mentioned Acetaminophen can be extremely rough on you too.
