I thought they were past the whole cholesterol causes heart disease thing?
Was that not junk science to sell statin drugs and in return lower testosterone levels of men?
Yea in a way but its actually more triglycerides and oxidized ldl.
1. LDL enters the artery wall
LDL particles (especially small, dense ones) can slip through the endothelium (the inner lining of blood vessels).
2. Oxidation occurs
Once inside the arterial wall, LDL particles can become damaged by free radicals, inflammation, or enzymes.
This changes them into oxidized LDL (oxLDL), which the body recognizes as “foreign” or harmful.
3. Immune response
White blood cells (macrophages) try to clean up oxLDL.
They engulf it, turning into foam cells.
4. Plaque formation
Foam cells pile up inside the artery wall, forming fatty streaks.
Over time, these grow into atherosclerotic plaques (hard deposits of fat, cholesterol, and immune cells).
5. Narrowing and instability
Plaques can narrow arteries, restricting blood flow.
If plaques rupture, they trigger blood clots, which can cause heart attacks or strokes.
