Shavers finished his career with a record of 74-14-1 and 68 knockouts and fought for the heavyweight title twice in his career - against Muhammad Ali in 1977 and Larry Holmes in 1979.

I miss when the news would report people like Ernie when they passed and would show clips of their lives and accomplishments. I read the news today and didn't see his death reported anywhere.
IMO, one of the hardest hitting boxers of all time. As well as being a huge inspiration to me when I started boxing. R.I.P
