What should I do about my snoring?

It does not bother me much because I live alone but the odd time I sleep over it bothers the lady I am sleeping with.

those of you that snore what do you do to help manage the problem?
posting this in the ask a healthcare professional forum in case there is a medical solution of some sort

The nasal strips definitely helped me and weren't too costly.

Oh and here's a softball....don't drink, it always makes it worse.

Are you holding a bit more of a belly that before or did you always snore?

I would shake the wall with my snoring when I was holding a bigger stomach. Dropped it down a fair bit (still a little to go above the belt line) and the snoring disappeared 90-95%. Sleeping on my back made it worse, but on my side would put my arm to sleep.

Nope no belly. But yes less weight for sure I snore less

I had surgery done a few years back, they shave off the flappy skin or something in the back of your throat with a laser. Worked like a hot damn.

How was the recovery?

I can deal with all kinds of pain unscathed.... but get a sore throat and I’m crying the fucking blues like a baby!

Apparently it isn't that bad. I had a unique situation where right after the surgery I got strep throat which the surgeon didn't catch, he even called me a pussy when I went back a couple days later telling him it hurt like hell so I'm guessing the surgery itself isn't that bad. About a week in I went to my regular doc and he caught the strep right away.

But the surgery completely got rid of my snoring, the only time I start snoring again is when I smoke.

I'm going to look into this. is this performed by a general surgeon or a specialist? did they have a name for this operation? I snore like a god damn freight train

@faller you are nuts if you think that LAUPPP didn't hurt bro!

How about the injection into the soft palate just before they roll you into surgery?

Honestly that part was no worse than a visit to the dentist.

The parts that stand out for me was the smoke curling out of my mouth and the surgeon mumbling to himself something having to be careful not to cut too much off because if he did there'd be food coming out of my nose every time I swallowed.

Laying on your back increases snoring, so lay on your side preferably
Losing body fat and getting lean will decrease the pressure of the abdominal cavity on the diaphragm
Nasal strips can definitely help
Some forms of medications/drugs will also put you into a snore because of how it depresses your nervous system, don't ask me which ones I can't remember, but booze does for sure.

Have you been tested for Sleep Apnea/breathing obstruction???

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have run a machine every night for the last 5 years, it has changed my life, i use to have to take a nap everyday before i was diagnosed, now I have more energy than I know what to do with.

As for when the ladies come over...... well that could be a little awkward as you look like an alien when you have the face piece on but it is a life saver, a lot of snoring is associated with Apnea.
