I finally found a trap line holder to sign me on as a partner. I've trapped farm land for years and have been looking to find a trap line within a reasonable distance to my home. Basically real trap lines are huge areas on crown land in remote areas.

I became good friends with a aboriginal elder a few years ago who has asked me to partner with him.

I doubt anyone will understand what this means, but its a dream I've had for 6 years. I find the bush the ultimate place for me to feel relaxed, comfortable and at peace. My mind just empties itself of anything extra. Now I have miles and miles miles of remote unoccupied wilderness to explore and spend my days and nights in.

I do. I was a bush rat for years and understand exactly how you feel. For me it was an escape from a less than happy family environment, once out in the mountains I'd feel that same feeling you have described. I look back on those days with fondness and am so happy to be able to say I've lived it.

Would I go back? No. It's a hard life style and now that I have joined the blue hair club I enjoy the comforts of modern society. But I'm happy to see your dreams come true, enjoy it to the fullest.

If you ever have the opportunity some time in the future some pics would be greatly appreciated.

While I honestly don't know if it is or isn't my cup of tea, I haven't trapped before, I don't have an issue with trapping. I work with a gentleman who has struggled with some inner demons for years. A few winters back he got back into trapping for the first time in over 20 years. It was his salvation, he found peace in the woods. He and I have had some very personal talks and after hearing him explain why and how the bush cleanses his soul, I can fully understand why having a mentor like an elder would be such a big deal to you.
Congrats!

I have lots of trapping/bush/hunting/camping pictures.. Not sure if I'd share them here, but I wish I took more pictures than I actually do.

If I had my choice, I'd live in a log cabin I built on a trap line miles away from any road 365 days a year.

If you dont think that would make you happy, just go camping by yourself for 2 full weeks in a remote area. I didn't understand how amazing that life style is until I did that camping trip. The only things you really think or stress over is food, water, shelter.. That's what you spend your day doing and thats what occupied your brain. Everything else just dissolves away.

I'm a very experiences and skilled outdoorsman in every regard, but then I meet people like that elder and I no longer feel like I'm highly skilled lol..

This fellow was born in a trappers cabin no less than 100kms from any ROAD paved or dirt... The cabin was off a horse/wagon trail. You had to walk/horse several km's from the trail to get to the cabin he was born in.

To my knowledge he didn't leave that cabin until he was in his 20's. The man never saw a house or a road for the first 20 years of his life.

To hear some of his stories while sitting around a fire would be nothing short of epic. Lessons like the ones he can teach are not something you come across very often.

I can testify to finding peace in the trees, did most of my childhood and these days I find I can get pretty irritable and sometimes it really is just that I need more nature. Too much work and life. For an hour is good already, but the best is a few days and over a week trips. Who has the time right. That's why you make it your job!

I always wanted to be a bush man with my life, I have back slid pretty hard but life goes on and one day...one day. Maybe not a full on bush man making squirrel soup but a dirty bushy fuck nonetheless.

That’s good news man, I have a buddy who’s a trapper and I’ve been in numerous traps with him. Know what it is to have more ground.

Congrats brother, that's a great way to clear your mind , great mental escape . Happy for you ! What game will you be trapping ?

So bottom line AI.... when you making newf his new fur coat?

Interesting turn of events sir. I remember how well documented your lov of the outdoors was documented on cm so I at least kind of understand the significance of this. To truly be befriended by a man like this, especially enough to ask you to be his partner on his lines is nothing short of spectacular. Such things don’t happen very often. Enjoy.

And get me that damned fur coat ASAP eh.... bagua needs one too.

Great news.

I’m also a relatively avid hunter and fisher so I do understand the need to pull back and the clarity it can provide. Too much shit usually going on in our lives it’s nice from time to time to break away.

My son is actually doing all his hunting and PAL shortly. So will be nice to get him out as well.

Agreed on everything but the fur coat! Argh!

Actually, as Newf stated it truly is an honour to be befriended by an elder of the community. I know you understand the implications of being given the high respect for the earth that comes with this and treat it in the proper manner.
Be safe, Animal.

Congrats! Ive never done what you do as far as trapping goes but I can relate to wanting to be alone as thats how I spend any free time I get, which isnt much. Just thinking of being alone for weeks on end in the bush lowers my heart rate just a bit.
