Legs

Who neglects their legs?

Reason I ask is at my gym theres quite a lot of big dudes. However I very rarely see any of them training legs. What's this all about? I vaguely remember a discussion on NM about this and remember a few fellas saying that they didn't train 'em.

I have to be honest and say legs are definitely my weakest body part and they should get more attention - I only train them once a week.

Good question. (y)

I train the crap out of them completely now but have neglected them in the past - especially when I worked out at home and didn't have much equipment.

I'm usually sore up until a week later when it's leg day all over again. I should really up my nutrition more around leg day especially so they can grow more someday. I also usually take the next day off and only do some light cardio.

buddy of mine has a excellent build except his darn chicken legs lol and I mean real thin legs. He works as a waiter in the evenings and is on his feet for hours on end. He figures he gets enough of a work out and he is right but if he wants to grow them chicken legs he needs to use weights or resistance training. Walking back and forth does not build big legs.

i love training legs....i have always squared and deadlifted. I can't really squat anymore but it use to be my best lift. @Funnyman got me doing super slow hack squats (which suuuuuuck...thank you) and slow leg presses with drops sets and they are growing again.

By big weakness has been calves (which i totally neglected in my 20s and 30s) but i have doubled down on them for the last 7 years and they are now one of my better body parts and favourite to train.

i always put leg day on Mondays so i do it at the start of the week when i have the most energy.

I am long and lanky so i always knew legs would be important so i wear shorts at the gym so i have to see them in the mirror and i can't hide them.

I started to train legs more about a year ago. I didn’t avoid legs because I didn’t mind training them, but when you stand for 12 hours a day, climbing ladders and crap with 80 lb boxes in your hands, having sore tired legs make the day really long.
My goal weight I wanted to achieve was going to be tough in all upper body weight, so that’s why I started to hit legs more.

Sure, I've had jobs which are extremely tiring on the legs and as such had very little desire to train 'em.

Right now I'm loving some of JM's leg routines, have been throwing some of his exercises in on leg days.

I figure the bigger I get my upper body the more weight my legs have to pack around... so those fvckers will grow anyways.

Ha ha ha

Seriously, I like training my legs and have convinced myself that the bigger they get the bigger the rest of me will get.

As the saying goes “ where the legs go the body will follow “

Or something to that effect

Unfortunately i don’t train legs much because of my severely arthritic hip that limits mobility especially when squatting. I do extensions and light squatting occasionally but maybe after hip replacement I’ll give squats a go again!

I'm guilty for neglecting legs, I dont not just train them but I'd say theres plenty of days I dont push as hard as I could or should mostly in semi fear of having sore legs for a week, ascending multiple 100s of feet a day with approx 50lbs of gear on with pounded out legs makes me wanna quit my job and with every ascend there has to be a decend adds up over the day

I try to hit legs twice a week. Once for sure. Just depends on how hard I go.

Unfortunately it does not do much for me as Ive got runners legs. Theyre long and thin, and my quads actually concave inward a bit where it should sweep out. Any gain I make is promptly destroyed when its time to cut down as any cardio ruins my legs.

Calves? Forget it. Thats one thing I dont do. They are utterly hopeless. Two years of hitting them hard and they actually did get smaller, albeit stronger.

I do have a bad ankle, questionable knee, and a bad back so I can not do deadlifts, but I can squat up to 405 so not too bad. Im sure I could go heavier but I won't. Typically keep it between 365 and 385 though just to be safe as after a couple heavy sets my lower back tends to cramp up hard, so then I jump on leg extensions to let it cool down, then hack squats, etc.

Its too bad it goes nowhere because I actually like leg day. Oh well. Thats genetics for you.

I still work my legs despite two knee replacements. No heavy squats but I do utilize squatting variations with a weighted vest while balancing myself on the lower arm of my Mook. Sort of like the way a Zane Leg Blaster works. Lots of leg extensions and calve work but the size in my legs will never get back to where they were, which wasn't much.
