So I have to pick up a few parts for my truck the inspection is coming due. I noticed I can get the parts I need on amazon a lot cheaper than I can locally for the same part. Have any of you ever done this ? And how would the warranty of the part work ?
 
I get parts from wherever I can get a good price, and I do all the work myself, unless its something incredibly time consuming as thats a commodity im short on these days.

Parts warranty is going to be as per the manufactuters conditions for the part. If its an OEM replacement mechanical part then typically installation needs to be done by a certified tech, otherwise warranty is void. Aftermarket parts may follow similar guidelines, but can vary depending on what the part is and what it does.

Like for ex: a tail lamp housing warranty is most likely valid for consumer install, where a factory ECU or any internal engine components will require certified installation, and you'd need a copy of your RO as proof.

You gotta check the paperwork that comes with the part, or ask if you buy from a dealer (and get it in writing if its an expensive part as sometimes you may get the wrong verbal advice).
 
Amazon is good. Jist make sure part numbers match.. you can always send stuff back to amazon. Bit if a hassle for returns.. but no questions asked
 
Yeah I need a wheel bearing and it's over 500 at the dealer and it's on amazon for 187 lifetime warranty. And a ball joint is 109 at the dealer and its 59 on amazon.

Do u have a Napa close by I just peice checked and lifetime bearing just over 300 and 3 yr warranty bearing 189. That dealer is charging top dollar my man. I’d find a new dealer.
 
As for a dealer In my area we are at the mercy as they are the only one In my town the next nearest is a 5 hour drive.

Check with them and see what they list at. If not a good price I’d do the online route. Seems like that’ll be your best option giving you have very few options out there. Nothing wrong with going online as the others have said. Just make sure you check and recheck the part numbers before you order as yeah, sending shit back blows
 
Yeah I will check with them I'd rather just get the parts and get all the work done and I do like the lifetime warranty stuff that last bearing had 160k on it

With most new vehicles you can't just replace the wheel bearing. They dont even have a wheel bearing to see you... What's sold now is the whole hub assembly with the bearing already pressed in. When I first realized this I was pissed, but when its sold like this it will last 5times longer than pressing in your own bearing AND replacing a hub with the bearing already pressed in is a hell of a lot easier and faster than taking the hub off, pounding the bearing out, pounding a new one in (trying not to damage it) and put the whole thing back together.

Be careful about buying parts on line from amazon and places like rock auto... They both sell off brand junk and decent name brands.. Stick to name brands, in the end you come out on top $ wise. AC/Delco, moog etc.... research your brand. Don't just go off amaon reviews. Most amazon reviews are based on someone putting the part in and writing a review right afterwards.. You don't often get the review of the person whose had the part installed for a few months.
 
I used to buy from NAPPA... I don't anymore. They sell NAPPA parts mostly and many are just junk... For example NAPPA u-joints are absolute garbage... Their brake rotors and pads are also junk... And their prices have sky rocketted at my local store.

For a lifted truck I recommend replacing the whole control arm with a Moog one that is adjusted for your lift. It's basically a control arm, but it angled slightly different to account for the lift. This control arm will come with a ball joint and will last a LOT longer than your stock control arm angle/ball joint.

I bought the rough country ones for the lift so I'm just replacing the ball joints with moog problem solvers
 
Ive always been big on OEM parts for most applications other than steering, suspension and brakes.
Anything engine/ power train or electrical i wouldnt waste my time installing aftermarket. Maybe a diff or something.
