I realized this while out last night and I didnt leave a tip. Felt really wrong. Guess im looking for validation, lol. Am I right about this? Wasnt this the point of a living wage? especially when I noticed prices are up. nacho platter at beers earlier this week was $29. cmon

I tip based of service. None of my business what someone makes. But If I get good service you will get a tip. Very rare I dont give something

Tip stands for To Insure Proper Service.
I tip when I get good service, tip a lot less when I don’t. I’m not so much talking about the meal, but how the wait staff is.

Raising min wage only increases taxes for the government, it fucks everyone else when the cost of living goes up and now your money is devalued. It really sucks for seniors that are on a fixed income or someone that makes enough that they don’t get a raise.

Like here when they boosted it from 11.25 to 14. I couldn’t afford to give my staff that all make more than min wage a 30% raise so they actually have less free money after they pay fir everything because the cost of living increased for them. So how does that help.

If the government truly wanted to help they would reduce taxes on the lower income earners.

They only want to appear to help. It seems like Naughtly is trying to imitate Wynne. Did she not see what happened in Ontario, way too late to buy votes. Hopefully you guys make NDP non party status like they did liberals here.

You got it right %100.

raising minium wage sounds great, but all it does is:
-devalue's money
-devalues jobs requiring skills and are above min wage
-raises the costs of living to match the increase. Everyone earning more than min gets the most fucked with this.
-screws the retired and fixed income ppl.
- and lastly INCREASES TAX REVENUE!!!!! They get more from you on income taxes, you have to spend more $ to live the same which gets them GST/ PST.

Our country truly has gone to hell.... Its turning into a third world shit hole with "big brother" watching and fucking you every chance they get.

The only question now is, at what point will it hit its breaking point and what will cause it? What will happen first:the government going bankrupt or civilians overthrowing the government out of anger ?

I tip based on service alone. My tip never reflects quality of food or anything other than how well my server conducted themselves. They would have to fuck up pretty bad for me not to leave a tip.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever had bad enough service not to leave a tip.

I once left a penny for a tip the service was so bad one time. Truly horrible bad, amd back then I normally left $20 so they would remember me.

We need to vote the socialists out. Ontario is on its way already to becoming better, I’m not saying PC is perfect but far better than all the other socialist parties. At least when they are being crooked they try to do it secretly and not wave it in your face like fuck you, what you going to do.

I know people need help, but we are going so far the other direction that there are a number who are abusing the system.
Last year 2 people applied, got hired, realized that it was more then just standing at a till being lazy, then told me they were going back to what they were doing before, which was collecting welfare. It was unfortunate because both were great workers if they wanted to be. So they could do it, but it’s been made to easy.

Then on the flip side I have this woman who can barely walk, that is obviously on disability, but wants to work so bad that everytime I run a help wanted ad pretty much begs me to hire her, but I can’t becayse there is no way she could do the job, we couldn’t even work around her to help becayse her disability is too great. Or the other customer I have who is pretty mentally handicapped, but he can seem to work a full time job.

I get you... It's tough to weed the garden when the garden is so big. Abuser's all over the place.

The other side of the argument is familes and society are raising useless people. its getting pathetic what Canada is turning out for 20 year olds.

You know my proffesion... I tell all my clients every single person can have middle class- upper class income by doing:
1) show up on time
2) out work every single person around you. This isn't "out think", its "out work:".. move faster, walk faster, fold faster, get your job done quicker then the next guy
3) do every single task as best you can from cleaner the coffee maker to stocking shelves. little things matter.
4) learn to solve your own problems. So many people in the job force are junk because when they can't do something, figure out something or not sure what to do; they just stop working. Either ask someone, or even better use your brain to figure it out.

You don't need to be the smartest person to get a great job. You can start at the bottom and out work everyone around you. Someone will notice you and value you your hardwork and pay you more, give you more hours or give you a job with more responsibiliy and pay.

You are one of the good ones for teaching this, because more need to do so. The attitude is wrong, parents telling children to work smarter not harder, or work to live not to work.
How in the fuck do you live when you don’t have any money, lol.
Please give me hours I want money, oh, can I get this day off, or that one, can I go home early? Hey why am I not getting that many hours. Lol

I teach my staff as well. Unfortunately majority have no work ethic anymore. They had been taught to be lazy. I ask the young guys if they mow the lawn or shovel snow, 1 in 3 usually does. That was my job as a kid.

I need good staff though, so I teach them.

It’s funny though, parents ask if their kid can work at my shop because they are a problem child, figure they will get fixed working for me. Seriously I don’t want your disrespectful child, way too much work, but I usually tell them this.
If you are the type of parent that when you child comes home whining about their boss being mean, and you say to them, ‘what did you do wrong? Are you not paying attention.’ You can bring them in, but if you are the type that when your child comes home complaining that I’m a mean boss and you side with them, then don’t bother, because I won’t be able to fix them.

Out of likely 40 parents, only one sent their child in. So learning to work starts with the parent. So I don’t blame the kids, they don’t know shit, so I teach them.

When I drop my grandson off as school, you know how many parents are running in with their children after the bell. Or wearing pajamas. What is that teaching your child? I guess it’s ok to show up late and not look like I give a shit.

Shit I’m turning this into a rant, lol.

I tip if they are HOT and friendly. But the personality is the biggest reason.
If I wanted service from a miserable hag, I'd still be married 🤣

My gf runs a kitchen. All the waitresses there got raised to $15hr she says some make more than nurses now. Her boss raised the mandatory tip out to the kitchen to 2.5% he talked about raising it higher and half the waitresses threatened to walk. Bunch of spoiled brats if you ask me. Kitchen staff have way more work to do, more skill, more responsibility with food hygiene. And the working conditions are hot and very stressful.
(I know because I worked kitchens for 5 years.) They really do get a raw deal compared to servers.

A lot of kids who are "problem children" happen because they are the parent that sides with their kids... So of course they won't respond positively to what you said. They are defended their child (again) by not sending them to you lol... Not every problem child is due to this type of parenting though.

If you want an absolute eye opener, volunteer to coach youth sports team. That whole culture has turned into what defines the problem with today's society in Canada.

I quit coaching because every peice of my body goes against the mentality of the kids and parents involved. There is the odd kid/parent who is on the same page as me, but majority aren't

Question...

I recall when I was working a bar there was such a thing as "sever's wage"... This is a wage that anyone in the serviing industry who receives tips reguluary can be given. And its lower then min wage. Did they take this out?

Once I worked in a bar, I ALWAYS tipped food/drink servers if they provided good service

In Ontario the servers wage exists and is lower then the newer minimum. I believe it is around 12.
I always tip...start at 15 and will go as low as 10 for poor service and as high as 25 for exceptional service.

I worked in the industry in my younger years. Keep in mind, in restaurants, servers must kick a percentage of their sales to the bar, kitchen and hosts..around 5 percent of their sales.
If you tip nothing or lower then then this, which is a personal decision, the server still has to kick a percentage of your bill back to the aforementioned positions, and it costs them money to to serve you.
Again horrible service is one thing .....and If they are rude or awful, I could care less...but In general often people don’t realize the above about they still need to kick back to the other positions, so poor or no tipping can cost them money out of pocket...and I know people don’t realize this.
Regardless, a personal decision either way..just my two cents

I always tip by service and most of the time i find my service to be great. On the rare occasions I go out with friends to the local watering hole I get into convos with my server and all of them are college kids due to living in a college town. Usually nurses in training and CYW's. They enjoy sucking info out of me because of my background in hospitals and with kids at risk. All of these kids have great work ethics and have a gung ho attitude to help the world. I have trained 100's of kids over the last 30 years and I have seen no difference in them whatsoever. The kids on the street still come from broken homes and addictions and those in college, basic middle class with the problems that are inherent with being in that social strata.
I think we look at the world through our personal schemas we have developed and it is difficult to break out of them to be more objective. After all an ostrich is a bird.

Yeah

Yeah in alberta now $15 is mandatory minimum. Even for servers.

Not all restaurants have a policy that servers must kick back a % of their tips to the cooks. And some places won't make the server kick back if a customer does't tip. IT's also easy for a server to pocket tips on cash orders. Not many ppl pay cash at restaurants, but in bars its generally cash.
