World Class Boxing Coach Spars Muay Thai Champion (Girl!) | Khongsittha Muay Thai

I was play sparing with my grandson and was really frustrated that I have lost the ability to predict a punch and move out of the way.

Maybe your grandson moves in a very beginner like manner? Often we get used to the orthodoxy of movement.

Naw I just suck. It’s been 30 years since I trained.
Can’t counter punch either.
I hung a punching bag in the garage, been working on it, going thru the old drills, even started skipping again,
I’m using it as cardio. Way more fun than a treadmill.

I didn't want to say you suck. Skipping is one thing I really miss.

Yeah, I bet you can’t with the knees.

Oh, damn I don’t remember skipping being this hard. I’d move around the gym for like 45 min skipping, fast and slow.
It’s rough in my ankles now, but I’m not 115 lbs like I was then, lol.
I am enjoying the training again. Now that my shoulder feel good I can punch hard again.
I was thinking of joining a boxing gym here with my grandson. He could do with some coordination practice. I could do with some sparing time, lol. You know get back the reactions again.
Used to kickbox won 2 amateur fights, lost a few as well, lol.
I cannot do the splits anymore, lol, so that kinda kills the kicking.

@Sorbate You don't need to do the splits to be able to kick high. What you can stretch in a static position has very little to do with your dynamic potential of flexibility. Don't even try until your cooldown. That is the proper time to stretch. There is little need to kick high when you get down to the nitty-gritty even if you are following old PKA rules.

I don’t know about suck. You should think more positive about yourself I think anything is possible if you work hard at it. I mean look at me I have four split desks my bones are disintegrating but I go to the gym every other day and I don’t let anything stop me. Attitude has a lot to do with accomplishments.

Yeah, never thought of that. When being taught it was relayed to us that we needed to be flexable to kick high.

I am a positive person, I'm positive I suck but also positive if I spent some time it would all come back.
Thank you.
Truthfully I am a pretty positive person, but my sarcasm gets lost in text.

You need to be flexible, but you need to be flexible in a dynamic way. I do very little in the way of static stretches these days but can still get a couple of fast kicks head high. Better than that, I can take my foot and slowly move it out to my chin height. Mind you, I do kick every workout.

And that is an example of why I need some practice.
It will come back eventually. Hoping my grandson loves it because he could really use the special awareness and coordination, lol.
